Weekend progress!

Postby mechmagcn » Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:37 pm

Well, for once we had great weather for building a tear, cooler and low humidity meant I could get some work done. I finished the hatch frame and got it mounted, installed the rubber roof and got the trim put on. Looks like I need to get the rear corner pieces done so that I can say the exterior is done. Now it is time to start figuring on the doors, my latches and windows should be here Wed. Guess I need to order an axle too!

Not sure of the exact weight but I wouldn't think over 75 lbs. total. I am debating whether to look for gas struts or just make some props.

I'm going for struts. I heard on another post to get the longest ones that were made for a tonneau cover. My wife has had carpal tunnel surgery years ago, and lifting the hatch unassisted isn't going to happen for her. Also, a sudden gust of wind just might lift a 75 lb hatch enough to drop the supports and if that happens it won't be a pretty sight.

Roly has a nice setup on his hatch. Kind of a locking hinged support.
