Monstero-new tables and tongue box in the wild

Been lurking long enough. My husband and I are about 1/2 way through our build. We started in October, hoping to be finished by Easter, but have just admitted we are not going to make it. Now shooting for Memorial Day. We both have some handicraft background, I grew up working in my father's shop (master cabinet maker who built roulette wheels for 40 years) and my husband's grandfather was a master carpenter in the heart of Amish country Ohio. My husband owns his own machine shop, so building the frame was the easiest part of the project. Detals" 5 x 10, homebuilt metal welded frame. Two doors. Bulkhead cabinets (three drop down below, one for shoes and two for dirty clothes) with two above and a central open shelf. Galley still under discussion, but will include a fold out self for stove, no sink, sliding doors in the back and cabinets under the counter.

With our backgrounds, it has to be a WOODY, so learning to fiberglass (I am the finisher in the family, if there is one thing I can do, it is sand) has slowed the process, but it looks pretty good. Got most of our hardware from Grant, using Steve's shop manual (but with solid walls, not ready for sandwich construction yet). I am also a quilter, so it is a race to see whether the tear or the quilt is finished first. Since I am a hand quiltiner, and working on BOTH the tear and the quilt, my bet is on the tear. Both are about 1/2 finished. The proflie resembles a whale, thus the whale theme quilt. Pics attached.

Nice looking tear, luv the quilt. I haven't done much on my decor yet. Looks like your coming right along tho. I think it took me two years to get mine road worthy, still not finished, they never are. Good luck see you in Austin in April... Jim G

As promised, more pictures of the garage

Postby nevadatear » Mon Apr 20, 2009 10:36 pm

For those who attended the Glyphs Gathering, here are some more pictures of the "garage", oh, and some of the progress on the tear too!. More pics in my album. Got most of the headliner in now, wiring and insulation. As for the garage, we now have to share with a 29 foot fith wheel. Wow, do we NOT what that!

We may even get the garage people to come to the Sept. Glyphs gathering!

Two weeks and counting

Postby nevadatear » Tue May 12, 2009 7:48 am

Here are some latest pics, more in album. Have a deadline of Memorial day, doing our best to make it, but having roof problems. Everynight after work for 4-5 hours! Next up, hatch. With any luck I start epoxying the roof tonight.

WOW great progress. Nothing like a deadline to keep you motivated and in a high state of panic.

I keep thinking... "What would I do with all that space in my shop?" Ha, it would just be more places for sawdust to collect in hip deep piles.

Debbie/Randy

Now that is really looking great!

That's going to be a whole lot more comfortable than your tent, especially in the snow, sorry I can't make the September trip to the Glyphs.

Nevadatear, welcome to the board.......at last. That is my favorite design, some whales swimming left, some swimming right. Blue border and all seams sewn precisely and ironed flat...........Ha, bet you thought I was going to comment on the teardrop build. I do that often, but at last, here is a chance to congratulate you on your stiching talents. Good for you a Woody, you can't beat that. The woodworking looks just fine, and you will surely enjoy the finished product.

Now, when you have time, you have to whip up some Whale-design for the curtains in the windows. Good luck......fiberglass sanding.....ugh!
Roly :? 8)

Ah, yes, but the curtains are already done, along with the pillow cases and an ice chest cozy! Just didn't do the pics for them yet until they are mounted! Also have two more throw pillows! Bought way too much fabric!
