Trailorboat reunion

Postby Kemosobe » Mon Jan 25, 2010 1:51 am

I am planning a Trailorboat 50th anniversary reunion sometime in 2011. My initial thoughts are to have it in San Rafael, CA with us camping in a local campground starting on a Thursday and showing our trailers in San Rafael on Saturday in a classic car show. I think starting the planning over a year in advance should give time to get the word out and work out details. I have spoken with the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce and have info on 2 different car shows during May. That time of the year would work good for me so tentatively the event would be in May of 2011.
The San Rafael Chamber of Commerce had no info on the Trailorboat company. I think it would be great if we could find some former employees and or owners of the Trailorboat company to come speak with us at our camp-out. I would like help on this aspect of the reunion, so if someone has any ideas and maybe lives around San Rafael and would like to do some snooping around please contact me.
I live in Washington state, but will be visiting San Rafael during May of 2010. Unfortunately my travels do not coincide with either of the 2 car shows in May. I think if someone took a Trailorboat to one of the local car shows and spoke with the locals it would be a great way to perhaps find info and or former employees of the company. I will be able to scout out campgrounds for the camp-out.
I have created an email account for the event [email protected] I will be doing email updates so send me an email and I'll add you to my list.
We are also starting a Trailorboat owners directory, so if you are a Trailorboat owner or know one please get in touch with me. So let me know what you think about having a 50th anniversary reunion and also if anyone wants to help plan the event. Updates will also be posted to http://trailorboattrailers.multiply.com/
Please help spread the word to other Trailorboat owners.

Good luck on your adventure. You need to contact Dave Locke at S.C.T.T. ( http://teardroptours.com/ ). He just happens to have one and most likely know of others here in California.

Thanks Gage, that's the kind of help I need. Not too many of these trailers around and I need to get the word out.

There is a guy here in Dallas who has one for sale. It is listed in the "For Sale/Wanted" Forum.

Trailorboat Reunion

Postby VW JIM » Wed Jan 27, 2010 2:01 pm

Hi Kemosobe, I am a newbe on this sight and was delighted when I saw your thread. I just purchased a Trailorboat resently and have been looking for others who have one. I found another guy in Lake Havasu City, Arizona that just got one also. We are both in to A/C VW's and are looking for the boat. I will let him know about this and maybe we can help each other.
A reunion sounds great or join in with other vintage trailer shows. I know of a show in Ojai,Califoria that was really good last year. I will find out more about it.
As I said I am a newbie at this sight and was looking for a Teardrop when I found my Trailorboat. I am in the process of restoring it and need some parts, like door hidges , back door latches, and (Trailorboat) emblems. If anyone knows anything about these neat little trailers please let me know.
Really looking forward to camping and showing it off. :D

Thanks Very Much

There is also a outfit up in Washington that's making the boats. Unless they have gone under because of the economy.

Hi, I'm new to this site also, heard about it from Jim at our yearly VW Bus show in Lake Havasu City. I have a 1964 Trailorboat that is missing the boat also. Mine is weird in that on the Trailorboat nameplate is has Ephrata Wash on it, not San Rafiel Calif like most. Plan on attending the reunion next year.

Trailorboat reunion

Postby VW JIM » Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:39 pm

We had our Trailorboat Reunion in San Rafael, Ca. May 10, 2011. It was a huge success with 10 trailorboats in all. We went to a car show in San Rafael also and our Trailers were a big hit as that is where they were built. We don't know how many of these little trailers were made, but we know of 29 or so that still exist. If you would like to see some pictures of them at the reunion campsite and at the car show, go to www.trailorboattrailers.mulitiply.com and you can see them and learn more about them and our group.
Thanks for looking
