Sorry to hear about the electricity going out. We had the tree limbs fall in 2007, it's really an eerie sound.
Hope today is a better day,
Rick

Emergency preparedness

Postby Wild Bill » Sun Jan 31, 2010 12:15 pm

Are you living in your tear during this emergency? I live by the motto the Boy Scouts use, be prepared, I would never count on any local, county, state, or federal goverment aid, they are very slow to respond, understaffed at the ground level and are not prepared to support a lot of people. Most people can fend for them selfs with a little pre planning. Frozen foods should stay frozen for a few days. Take other stuff out side if it is cold enough or cook it and protect from the local wild life. Drinking water if you have a well may be hard to come by. Drain it from your water heater after shutting off the heater and the power or gas supply. It should have 40 gallons of usuable water. Having camping gear and knowledge you should fare very well. My wife shares my beliefs and we could live off of can goods for 2 or 3 weeks. Or longer!!!! If all else fails lots of beans!!!. Good luck to you. Lots of fire wood all around you, watch out for fallen power lines!! Bill

We have been thinking about you guys in Duncan. Listening to the weather makes it sound pretty bad down there. Two years ago we had it real bad, lost a lot of trees, made a hole in the roof, (metal roof at that), lost electricity for 8 days, lost all our perishable food. Any way, we bought one of those generators that come on when the electricity goes off. Needless to say, that stopped the electrical outage. Hasn't gone off since.
Where we live there are no snow plows or sand trucks, just Gene and his tractor. He gets out and clears all the neighbors drive ways and the street. The ice was pretty thick then we got about 6 inches of snow. We had most of our trees trimmed and with no wind the limbs that were left did o.k. I must say it is really beautiful out. I would like to get some pictures.

Everyone take care. Rick, should you be out in this with a fishing rod?
Take care!

I was in Wichita, KS during the infamous ice storm of (was it January?) 1979. No power for 4 days. I lived in an apartment at the time. No one with a wit of sense was trying to drive, and those that did wound up in the ditch. I slipped and slid 2 miles (on foot) to the local Ramada Inn, and camped out in their lobby for a few days with my newly acquainted closest friends! Thank God they had a generator!
God Bless
