New project: '78 box camper

Came across a great deal on this neat little trailer, couldn't resist! The title says it's a 1978 Lilca, there is no ID on the trailer itself. It's in good shape for being 32 years old, with a sturdy frame and 15" wheels. Inside is empty, just paneled walls. Looking at putting a mattress on the floor, with a fold-up deck over it to put all the "stuff" on. Maybe stick a Sportz tent on the back?

Seems like I 've seen one similar somehwere in these forums..

Cool trailer, and that's what I would do, just put in what you think appropriate and go camping. You'll soon know if changes are needed.

This is very similiar to what I would like to build.

Any pictures of the inside?

Thanks for sharing

That's a cool little trailer. Very easy to build, probably could do the basic shell in a weekend.

I agree, more pics, including the inside...

Half the reason I got it was to use as a temporary shed, so it's already full of camping stuff. (Doesn't everyonehave a dozen space-hog coolers?) It's just plain paneling, the two windows, and two wheelwells inside. I'll take more pictures tomorrow, though it is parked in a narrow space beside the house.

It is a good size, and the front and sides have some shape, giving it more class than just straight up-and-down walls. It is framed with 2x2s and the roof has a curve for drainage. It even has electric brakes, but I suspect they need a good overhaul. There is an aluminum sheet under the floor to protect it, too.

First thing to do will to be to pull off the corner moldings and put new putty tape under them; what's there is dry and falling out. Just had an all-day rain, and it did leak some in three of the corners, but not too bad.

Saw it listed on Craigslist, only paid $350! Not bad for a ready-to-go trailer...

Here's a few more shots. Couldn't really get the interior due to all the stuff in it...

A previous owner must have been fond of buffalo! The 45" long tongue is 2x5 box, the main frame is 2x4 box: just two rails with a few crossmembers, and several outriggers. The rear bumper is the type that doubles as an RV sewer hose holder. Other than the dented front, there are only two small holes in the skin (right side, in the dark brown section), and I have a cargo door I may put there that will take care of them both. I guess some of the leakage problems could be those missing marker lights, huh?

Interior measures 8' 8" long x 7' 4.5" wide and 47.5" high. The door is 42" wide x 43" high. Windows are 18" x 30". Of course I have it all mocked up in Sketchup, trying out various arrangements.

I have a 12' x 14' Easy Up that would cover the body and provide a covered porch/changing room, just add side curtains...

Neat little trailer, I probably would have snapped it up also. Can I ask how much a "good deal" was?

Doug,

I think he said he got it for $350.

I wish I could find one similar to that, in that price range!
