Smallest Tow Vehicle Yet!

Postby campadk » Mon Jun 20, 2005 3:35 pm

How about this for a small tow vehicle for our PJ Snoozer? Matches our fenders even!

Downside is it makes the tear look HUGE.

PS. Nope I didn't photoshop this one!!

My God, Dave, I haven't seen an Isetta in a gazillion years. Tell the truth now, are you really hooked up to your tear or are you just parked there in front of it? Have to admit it would sure look wild to see an Isetta pulling a tear down the highway. :o

I thought so. My mother-in-law had several of them when she was growing up. The last one I saw Steve Erkel was driving it.

Well actually our neighbours own it. We thought it would make a great photo and today was the perfect chance to put the two together. He's going to be selling it actually.

Here are a few other shots we took...

Well I guess that's no worse than the trike I plan to build to pull mine, of course it's going to have a V8 in it. Probably just a little more horsepower.

That is HYSTERICAL!!!

You have just GOT to figure out a way to hook that up and drive it around the block at least ONCE!

Maybe hire a couple of midgets to drive it, too.

The original BMW Isettas (well, actually the BMWs are copies of the real original Iso) had about 12hp so maybe a little low for towing. Come to Britain and you can buy a perfect replica Isetta, the Zetta, that uses a 250 Honda scooter engine so has more like 20hp.

Image

If 20hp isn't enough, one guy shoe-horned a Suzuki 1100 motorcycle engine into one of these, so that's more like 140hp.....

If anyone ever has the opportunity to visit Berlin, Germany, I recommend a stop at the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie. This museum is dedicated to those 80 people who lost their lives attempting to escape East Germany by crossing into West Berlin. One exhibit in this museum is an Isetta that was used to smuggle people across the border. It is hard to imagine, but the exhaust system was modified to allow room for a false floor for a human to hide. The border guards did not even bother inpsecting the car assuming it was just too small to hide anyone. I don't recall how many got across using this car, but the human smugglers were finally caught when the car moved on its own as the person hiding inside shifted his weight.
