Repurposing

Thinking about using the ice pack that came home from the hospital to convert into a swamp cooler for Charlie. it runs off 6 volts 1 amp. would need to just build the blower and mats.

so what have you taken meant for one application and used for another.

The home remodel project has donated several left overs.

The headboard in the teardrop is a left over oak fireplace mantle that was never used.

Image

My countertop in the barn was the sink cutout in the new formica countertop in our kitchen addition.

The Pergo flooring you see in the galley area is also a remodeling leftover

Image

A lot of the duplex outlets boxes and switches as well as the romax was from the home remodel

As the king of cheap I went and took a long tour thru my album to see what else has had a previous life before becoming part of my tiny trailers

Hold on to your shorts...........
My original dutch oven table was a tossed out projector stand

Image

The foam for the couch/sofa was a freecycle find off of someones guest bed

Image

It goes on this convertable frame made up of pieces from a futon frame ($5.00 yard sale find) and some scrap lumber from work

Image

a switch box for toggle switch lighting controls repurposed from a coleman smoker box. (originally designed to fill with wet wood to toss in the grill for a smokey flavor)

Image

The bones for the barn build were all from wood scraps from work

Image

My mounted party lights are a few large christmas tree lights mounted under the gambrel eves

Image

Speaking of christmas lights storage compartment lights for about 83 cents each

Image

or maybe just drill a few throw away beer bottles for lights.

Image

Image

need a shelf support that is terrain adjustable ( stole the idea from handyman Dan)

Image

Got an old above ground pool steel liner support ring. Make a fair roof on a small cargo tear

Image

Got a little ceramic tile left from a home project? It makes a great place to land a hot pan of set up your cook top without worry

Image

My side windows were a point of sale display at an auction 6 styles on a carrosel for $5.00 total

Image

How about repurposing a few hail guards off of commercial skylights make a great see thru roof.

[/img]

speaking of lexan if ya have a dab left over they make a dandy backing for your red neck TV antenna. Oh the elements were repurposed from steel lumber strapping.

Image

Or you can keep the bagged items from filling with cooler water by making a seperation tray in the cooler just place on the jugs of milk orange juice tomatoe juice and water 1/2 gallon jugs.

Image

Image

Image

Been tossing your milk chub jugs from McDonalds ? They make great small sealed spice jars.

Image

THe larger white canisters for flour coffee sugar ect started out life as on of these

REVERSE repurposing has worked for us as well !

The new LCD HD television we purchased for the teardrop works well on the fridge in the kitchen when we are not camping.

The little 5000 BTU AC unit does double duty as well. To avoid useing the central air ol what's her name just pops on the little ac unit when the cooking heat builds up in the kitchen. He resides in the kitchen window and is simply removed from the window and packed to go camping when needed.

 Wow that looks just like my Dutch oven table. Oh wait it is, it was passed on to me and continues it's life as a Dutch oven table. Coat of high temp green paint and it keeps going and going.

gas grill setting beside the road waiting for the trash man !

Image

My welder buddy at work fabed up the knock down crane for me.
It all fits in a camp chair carry bag with the exception of
the grate itsself of course !

I really liked it. The parabolic shape help to keep the coals centered yet it is not so steep that you can disperse them to the outside to reduce the heat and they will stay where they are placed. The slight dish also helps to act as a wind screen. The height adjustment on the walker legs makes it comfortable for the heigh challenged as well as the tall folk. The absolute best was the shelf. I used the devil out of it to have a clean place to lay things. It is easy to transport knocked down.

Image

I really love it. I think the front bar will become a tool rack with the addition of some kind of hook system or maybe a fabric holster with pockets or loops for each tool.

Image

For those that were worried the dish would melt away ....I had a 12 Qt D.O. 3/4 full of veggie soup at a slow rolling boil that afternoon and when we cleaned up and packed next morning not even the paint was discolored , it looked like it had never been used.

I can not match Bob, he is the King!

Here is what I did. I had a pair of seat belts left over. So I used them to keep my doors from opening to far.

Image

The hatch lights were out of an old Buick if I remember right.

Image

My rear bumper was my old Jeep Wrangler bumper. All I had to do was notch the floats on the ends.

Image

An auto theme I guess.

repurposed blue jeans :D

I mentioned on here somewhere that I am in the process of making 2 dutch oven carrying bags.

I purchased a pair of 38 and 44 waist heavy denim bluejeans at goodwill.

why 38 --- 3.1417 x 12" = 37.7 , The circumference of a 12" dutch oven

The other is for my 14"

My buddy steve has an upholstry shop and in 10 seconds he can sew the legs shut across the crotch and I will cut off and remove the remaining legs below. Turn the jean "Sack" right side out and add heavy cord thru the belt loops for a draw string.

Ta dah a dutch oven tote sack !

Wonder what I could use the legs for if
I sewed the rough end shut
