Thanks, I appreciate it.

Crystal beach is on the Bolivar peninsula between Galveston and Port Arthur. You can get to it by ferry from Galveston, or by bridge from High Island. It is a really laid back town where people live the beach life. If you don't get to the beach much, coming over on the Galveston ferry is a lot of fun.
Crystal Beach was pretty much wiped off the map by Hurricane Ike, but refused to die. So, it is now rebuilding, and rebuilding with a vengeance.
The Smelly's house virtually disappeared when Ike rolled through, but they rebuilt it, and it is a great place to kick back and enjoy the Gulf of Mexico.
I spent a lot of time at Crystal Beach in high school, as it was the place to go from Port Arthur. The road I drove back then (Hwy 87) was washed away a few hurricanes ago, but Crystal Beach is still there. You just have to drive a little more to get there.
As Texas beaches go, I think Crystal Beach is the best. Limited access, nice people, and they have this store called "The Big Sore" that offers all the seafood and cajun specialties you could want, so you can come down with an empty galley, and eat very well.
This is a gathering that I think is well worth the drive.
Eddie is going to send me some photos (via his younger kinfolk) to post up (he's a bit technically challenged). I'll post them here as soon as I get them. I have been to his new beach house, and it is awesome. And, the beach is all cleaned up and will be fantastic to camp on. I was actually there the first week of May this year, and we sat on his deck until well past midnight and it was wonderful. Perfect temperature and a nice sea breeze.
