3 Texas Teardrops unveiled!

Postby Gern Blanston » Thu May 04, 2006 8:23 pm

This was a big day for us, the first time to roll all three of the completed teardrops out together. We began this project last August. The Alpha trailer was finished in January, the Bravo trailer in March, and my Charlie trailer is in the finishing details right now. We were also associated with a 4th trailer, Delta (not pictured with the group), which was built across town in a separate shop. The retired guys made better time than the working stiffs.

We are planning a shakedown cruise to Palo Duro Canyon State Park on Saturday May 13 where we will stay overnight. If any of you are in the neighborhood or driving across the Texas Panhandle, we can call it a mini-gathering. We'd love to have you come by and kick the tires.

Gotta say I like the door window on the Charlie model a bunch.
Week from the day after tomorrow in Palo Duro Canyon, eh?

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Laredo: You should come on up, it's just up the road from LadyRaidertown.

Chris C, DaveL: Thanks a lot! Stop by if you can, if not, hope to see you at a gathering sometime.

Alaska: Thanks! I can never get enough of that picture, nor the double entendres it evokes! I'm sure we haven't seen the last of it.

Wow, 3 great looking teardrops. be proud of what you have accomplished. I'll bet it will turn heads when three stunning new tears go down the road, one after another. Now, get your calandars out, and pencil in the Sweetwater Gathering in So Calif next year, and the three of you come on out here and show us what those Texans can accomplish. Will be looking for you in about 11 months or so. Enjoy

Gern,

We would love to come up but that's Mother's Day weekend and that's the weekend we spend at the Texas Dulcimer Festival in Glen Rose. Anyone in our area down here will find the Bluebonnet Tear there every Mother's Day.

We do want to come do Palo Duro, haven't been there in years.

Gern,
It's closer than you think -- technically my job's in Canyon.
Canyon's in the Palo Duro, just not the park.

Those are really nice tears. I also like the door/window combination on the Charlie Tear.

Can you post pictures of the galleys?

Good Job!

Thanks for all the nice comments!

We took something of a minimalist approach to the galleys, preferring portable storage boxes to cabinets, water jugs rather than plumbing, and dutch ovens & coleman stoves rather than built-ins. We did wire them for 12v and 120v. We have room for further development in the galleys if the need or motivation ever strikes. I kind of like the open space I've got, and may use my galley table more often as a drawing table than a kitchen.

Alpha has a more conventional country kitchen look to it with cabinets and stuff, but I can't find a picture of it. I'll take some pictures this weekend when we try them out for the first time. Bravo and Charlie are shown here, and you might notice the lower rear part of each trailer is a tailgate. That's so we can get the boxes in and out easily.

Anyhow, as I said, we may make further hardware/appliance additions to the galley later if we need to, but right now our intent is to keep them pretty simple, almost plain.

Did I mention we are Amish?
