New Axle on my trailer

Postby Micro469 » Sat May 06, 2006 8:43 pm

Got my trailer back, changed the straight axle for a dropped axle. It was lengthened about 4" so the 15" tires would fit. Now I'm ready to build....all I need is the money.

heh heh heh At first glance I thought, there is no travel with the arms straight up. Then I looked again and said, "Oh, you dummy those aren't torsion axles. "

The lower profile will look good paired up with the tow car. Looks like you are still using a raised ball on the hitch. You must have had a really tall one on there with the old setup.

Interesting.. where/how did you get the axle dropped?

.... that is kind of specialized work... no welding shop around here would have the drops needed, nor probably know where to get them...

Asianflava: Same hitch, height not changed... it just fits better. Used it for small utulity trailer I share with my brotherinlaw

Arnereil: Took it to a place called General Axle in Brampton. My trailer is an odd size-57" wide, so they had to make a new axle. Took the old one as trade, charged me $80.00. I feel as if I ripped them off, a new axle usually costs around $200 + up here. Being an odd size, he's not going to be able to sell it quickly....

John
Wow, that was a great deal. Trailer looks just the right height now. Nice big tires really set them off I think. Good luck with the build.

Happy Trails

You got an excellent buy.... I bent my hidden hitch by catching the ball in some cobblestones, and they wanted $125 to take a minor bend out.... same price as a new hitch... to get an axle for that price is very good.

Yes Finn, It's galvanized. It was cheaper than painting it. ;)
