HF Trailer Finished!!

Postby SkipperSue » Sat Sep 30, 2006 5:50 pm

I got the trailer finished today  None of the parts were labeled so it took a bit longer than I thought it would. :? I got a jack stand for it today also.

I also went ahead and got a new digital camera so I can document the build proccess and post the pics here :R

Here is the finished trailer.

Here is the front of my Airstream trailer.

Next step I guess is to take the trailer to the wood store and load up on the plywood. :R

Looks like you have a nice digital camera. What kind did you get?

P.S. Oh yea, did you already move your axle back on the trailer?

Yes, it's a 4'x8' one. And yes, I was able to use the 15% off cupon that Forestfrog posted, thanks again Forestfrog :) Here is the link to the one I got.

The camera is a Polaroid a515, I also added more memory in it, a 512 SD card. It's a 5.1 megapixel , still learning how to use it. :R

Skip,
There are a couple reasons you might want to move the axle back. Weight balance is one reason, depending on how you build you may or may not have a problem achieving the proper tongue weight of the finished trailer. You want somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15% tongue weight. The other reason is to avoid having the fenders interfere with the door opening, again depending on your profile, this may or may not be a problem. I would suggest cutting out the plywood side walls or possibly just do a cardboard mock up of the side walls to determine your door opening & fender locations and if there is a problem, you could move the axle at that time before adding the plywood floor to the trailer.

Well Skip,

You may or may not have to move your axle, depending on the profile, your packaging requirements, and your tongue weight requirements.

(Many people have to move their axle back cause it's in the way of the doorway.)

But check out the tongue balance information here...
