Vardo - paint question?

Postby Alfred » Mon Sep 26, 2011 12:07 am

Hey Deryk,

I find that I keep coming back and reviewing your L'il Vardo build, and I've been following the Vardo2 build, too. I really like what you've done here, which is distill the spirit of a vardo into a tiny travel trailer build. If I ever try a build #2, I think I would like to build something like this.

Wondering, how did you seal and paint the walls? Did you use barn paint for the red? What did you use for the other colors, and what did you use to prime or seal the wood?

This is a great looking little camper, I understand why it sold so quickly!

Thanks Alfred! Well the Paulownia came primed and I didnt worry about sealing the wood because its suposed to be very rot resistant. I bought the paint for it from lowes, went with a exterior 20 year latex paint, dont remember the name but it was their better grade exterior. Im doin the oil based tractor paint for lil vardo 2. Im addin pics next in lil vardo 2...got more work done.

lil vardo build

Postby PcHistorian » Tue Jan 31, 2012 9:37 am

looking sweet. good luck on the weight. are you going to stain and poly the exterior? (an overall light sanding might take off a pound of wood. I was going to say, "you'd better be using balsa if you want that much wood to come in that light." I'll look up that wood you have the link to, here. That should be interesting. Always in the market for new fangled building materials. :-)

Deryk,

If you see my introduction thread, I think you'll find it to be an interesting idea, if you've any insights, I'd love to hear from you...

I wasn't sure which of your builds to comment on, so I'll probably comment on both...

I love the Vardo's you've put together, your inspiration has me inspired, and then some... I hope I get to sleep tonight, my idea is swarming with new ideas!
