Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hello everyone,
How much does your teardrop weigh, once you've got it pretty much packed to go camping?
We figure our tongue weight is about 94 pounds at this point (though we will probably add a little weight there by placement of a spare tire)
We plan on getting it packed as if to camp and take it down to the feed store soon to get a weight on the entire trailer, "fully loaded".
Bob and I were pulling it around the garage last night by hand and were almost having FUN at the idea of a trailer that is so little and easy to move around!

Your tongue weight is a whole lot lighter than mine! When I put it on the scale, I got a reading of 215 pounds. I wonder if my axle is too far back? Do you remember how far from the back your axle is?

Mike,
I don't remember the measurement, but we put it exactly where Kevin told us to in the Kuffel Creek plans.
Maybe yours is that heavy because of the tongue box you have in the front?

That little aluminum thingie? Nah. I think I just overbuilt mine. It's as strong as a tank!!!

Mike,

Your tongue weight is about right for your tear. It'll pull good. I've got about the same on mine with the total weight being about 1500 lbs (5x10, but only 4' high). By accident, one time I had mine up around 105 mph and it was following like it wasn't even there, straight & true. :shock:

I don't remember, did you put shocks on yours? It's something you might consider, they work.

Bev, yours is also just about right, and I wouldn't worry any more about it. But it is interesting to know just how much the total weight is (the tear

). But as long as your around 100 lbs on the tongue, your good to go.

We've been told our tear is 700 - 750 pounds. We haven't weighed it when we have it loaded. We've pulled it behind our minivan and can't tell it's even there. We'll be pulling it to a few local places behind our 1958 Nash Metropolitan this summer which should prove interesting. We're not taking it far since we worry about the weight ratios, etc. Where else besides a feedstore can one find a scale to weigh this thing when loaded?

You may want to try a truck stop some have scales. I plan on weighing mine at one some day.

Check your phone book for scales, also most moving companies have scales that will weight your tears.
