I'm not sure if this topic came up in previous posts, but is the fire firewood situation restricted in the ADK area?

I assume that there is plenty of wood for sale at the FCP camp ground but I have to ask anyway.

Is Kate a red head???? Dang! I never noticed that LOL. Ok maybe she was red a year or so ago :D

Well Kurt.. you just HAVE to take her shopping in Burlington VT and Lake Placid... maybe Kate will offer to take her to 'Ruthies Run' in Lake Placid. PS. pre-fill that wallet of yours LOL.

Not sure about the wood situation you are talking about, but I know they prefer people not bring in wood from other areas. They have a wood truck that comes through, there are wood stands here and there along the way as well.

Kate I and I will be at Fish Creek in about 14 days. We'll check into any 'wood' situations. We'll also warn the party staff of the riff raft that will be coming in, in June.

We wondered about wood also & we read on the state park web site that if you bring wood with you, you must burn it all before you leave.

We usually bring wood from home and buy more if we need it. People are always leaving firewood at their sites when they check-out, someone will eventually come along and scarf it up and use it. We were always told it was good camping etiquette to leave a few pieces of wood for the next people who use your site. :campfire:
The DEC doesn't usually issue any type of fire restrictions unless it is an unusually dry summer and normally that is for the backcountry. I don't think we'll have a problem in the spring.

There are some areas of the country that are being quarantined on account of the Emerald Ash Borer. We have a couple of counties here in Ohio. I believe Michigan also have some firewood quarantines. Do not know about New York.

Chuck, that's why I asked. Indiana, Ohio and Michigan have strict rules on firewood.
I have not seen any such restrictions for NYS yet, but thought I'd ask.

If there's a "wood truck" cruizin' the campground, that's even better than bringing my own.

This was what we read....

Firewood Alert
Bringing your firewood with you? Most people don't realize they move bugs along with their firewood. You could be spreading diseases from insect invaders that can quickly kill large numbers of trees. Our forests are at risk from the transport of firewood infested with tree killers.Help STOP THE SPREAD of these pests:

* Leave firewood at home–do not transport it to campgrounds or parks.
* Use only firewood from local sources.
* If you bring firewood, burn ALL of it before leaving your campsite.

I do believe the wood truck starts passing through by June. If not, there are wood stalls along the way, and wood available at the camp store, just outside the park. Its a tad pricey though.

One of the best places to stop at is 'Johns' wood place. Its just at the bottom of the hill on the way out of Tupper Lake heading north on route 30 towards Fish Creek. Its just before the bottom of the hill on the right. Keep an eye out for it so you can brake in time. He has a 'Wood' sign by the road.

Boomer- I stand corrected. Just read the article you were refering to about firewood on the NYS campground site. I guess from now on I'll leave the firewood at home. Can I at least still bring my scrap lumber for kindling? I know there are no bugs in that.

While I'm thinking of it, any horseshoe players coming to FCP? If so I'll bring mine and we can set up a pit somewhere. Maybe we can get a little tourney going on Sat afternoon. I figure it would be a good way to get to know some of the new faces that will be there this year.

 I love the idea of horseshoes. It sounds great for either singles or doubles? Now on to the good stuff now that it has stopped raining. Working on the L.G. for our first outing in May.

Excellent! A volunteer! :D

Kate has some stuff for me to post for the tearup, including looking for volunteers for a few events, so this sounds great! Anyways will get to posting some stuff tommorrow.. trying to back to the planning stage.. kinda hard when we are busy prepping the 'mothership' / 40 Winker for our pre-tearup camping at FCP next week, testing systems, making drapes and adding necessary chochkey. Bought 4 rolls of TP for $3.95 today! Yikes! Teardropping is definately cheaper!

Rick, how is the Fandrop doing? Looks done in your album, but not sure if its 100% chochkeyed out yet, ready to camp yet? We better find something like your moose for our 'ship'!

How about a pre-tearup campout next weekend?

Dave- I have a few more things to do to the Fandrop but they are all cosmetic (i.e. wheel covers, attach tongue box, etc.). Just went to the DMV yesterday to register it.
Would love to go camping next weekend but our community Garage Sale is next weekend and we have a lot of chochky to get rid of!!
Looks like Watkins Glen is going to be our first trip of the year.

TearUp Update

Postby campadk » Sun May 06, 2007 8:22 am

Well time for an update!

At last year’s Tear Up it was suggested that campers might volunteer to organize some fun for the weekend. If you are interested please let us know. We are also looking for prize donations. If you would like to donate a prize for the pot luck draws that would be great. Please limit prize value under $20.

A few suggested volunteer ideas from Kate:

Canoe outing (simply plan a time and plot a course and let people know about it).

Cooking demonstration? – Invite people for a cooking demo at your campsite (i.e. how to bake something in a dutch oven)

Games (i.e. last years fun)

Kate and Diane are planning something (I think its secret for now).

Dave and Kate are trying to get things together for a surprise fun event.

Dave is organizing an outing for those interested to visit the new Wild Centre in Tupper Lake.

Pot luck is Saturday night. You may post what you intend to bring (if you know) and I'll keep an up to date list posted.

Hi all,

Hey Dave call me in for a canoe/kayak tour group. I covered most of the area with Alan & Leslie, and by myself, and can put together a novice paddle tour. Maybe Alan & Leslie would be interested in being tour assistants.I can bring a tandem, and a solo canoe if anyone wants to join us. PFD's will be required,as well as appropriate water wear ,no exceptions{it's for your safety}. I have several adult sized PFD's if any are needed. I suspect the water will be much colder then normal this time of year, due to the cooler spring we are having. Please let me know how many are willing to do a tour of the lake, and if a novice,or experienced. Pace will be kept that a novice will have no trouble keeping up. Any canoe/kayak rental place near Fish Creek,Dave?

Joan asked if there is anyone interested in biking around the park,or easy trail, anyone know, interested?

As for pot luck ,Joan is planning to bring pickled red beet eggs, and shoo-fly pies{Pa dutch favorites}.

Anyone wanting to join the paddle group, and have questions for water wear, tour length,or need a PFD ,please PM me.

We are both looking forward to seeing old friends, and meeting new ones. See ya there.
