Yes 244 is designated for disabled campers. Not sure, but anyone is likely to be able to book it online. In making a change, perhaps the person at Reserve America people saw it designated disabled and therefore notified you of it. The disabled sites are flagged on the Campsite Guide (Handicap Sites) and Map Navigator on fishcreekpond.com . The disabled sites have a round metal ringed fireplace, modified picnic table and often are graveled based... many disabled campers mention that gravel isn't all that great for wheel chairs. The disabled sites also are only one or two sites from a washroom which is great.

Being the one who had booked 244 and a wheelchair user, I will say that even the parks don't know what designated sites are. Some are only level sites and somewhat more hard packed. Most are near the washrooms. Many parks don't even have them. Some like Letchworth have handicapped site right across from a washroom with stairs (hello) I will take gravel over grass anyday since one wet day and my chair will make a muddy groove.

Reserve America states on many of these sites that one in the party must be a walker or wheelchair user or you can't rent the site. I have no idea if this is enforced at all.

I am considering starting a web site or blog with a real world evaluation of the parks I visit and how accessable they are. One of the reasons I loved Keuka Lake SP so much was the showers had a bench seat and handheld shower head just like my home. The site I swapped 244 for at rollins pond has a sidewalk like strip that goes to camper pad and fire pit. I looks very friendly and will be a huge plus if it rains.

Binghamton, NY "Rest Stop"?

Postby Nancy P » Tue Jun 02, 2009 11:03 am

We will be traveling up I-81 through PA into NY state and passing through Binghamton, NY on our way to ADK. Does anyone know of a good rest stop in that area? We want to break up the 8 1/2 drive.
I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I have just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well ;)

none in particular, but I've driven 81 south and north and have never had a problem finding places to stop, for me and the dog... also, I believer there are a lot of wal-marts just off 81..... and the usualy McDs, subways, whatever.... you should not have any problem.

To anyone who is coming to ADK at Fish Creek, We live 40 miles north of Albany right off of I-87 at exit 17. If you are in that area and should need a place for any repairs on car or camper I have a shop that you are welcome to use. Just send me a PM and I will give you my cell #. There is also a real nice camp ground right here also. Its called Moreau Lake State park. Looking forward to seeing all of you.

Coming from Pa. up I-81, I am not not sure about rest areas. If you come up I-88 from Binghamton there are several rest areas along that route. They are patrolled by the state police fairly often. Also there is one on I-87 just 15 miles north of Albany.

Pre-TearUp BurnUp

Postby campadk » Tue Jun 02, 2009 2:09 pm

Just checked and wada yeah-all know... they are several of us arriving early for the TearUp. On the 10th we have 16 campers, and we are all pretty much close together.

How about a Pre-TearUp, BurnUp the ADK Campfire? Either on the 10th, or perhaps the 11th. Maybe we should have a mini pot-luck ha ha (just kidding).

Kate and I have a wacka wood nearby so we will host a campfire outside the 'Mothership'.

Not sure what time people are arriving... could have it on the 10th, if not the 11th. Weather is looking pretty good at this point both days with highs of 20C or 69F.

How is that TearUp banding coming along Kurt? Could have a Pre-TearUp concert...

I'm soooo excited!!

Postby TheresaD » Tue Jun 02, 2009 2:31 pm

I'm going to be able to come up for the gathering!! I was able to talk my friend Cindy into making the trip with me and we're going to head up as soon as she gets out of work Friday. Unfortunately my trailer is no where close to being campable yet :( so you will have to pardon our appearance in our tent! I'm really looking forward to the weekend and meeting some of the people on this forum and seeing some of the trailers up close and personal! Plus it will be great to get back to this campground after 20 something years. This was where I went on my 1st ever camping trip.
Oh!! by the way.. I reserved site #202

See you all next weekend!

Let's hope we get good weather.. :worship: Rain might be sucky in a td or ttt but it's worse with a tent!!

The "band" is yet to be finalized. Believe me, it will be "informal" at best.

As long as we have some instruments and some players, we can make it up as we go.

Current TearUp weather forecast as of June 2, 2009:

An interesting mix of odd day periods of rain... but this is ADK land... don't trust this forecast yet!

Remember also:

You could stop at my brothers house, I'm sure he wouldn't mind! He'd be a little confused but he'd get over it! Seriously though, I always see a Cracker Barrel just off I81 as I'm heading home from his house. Or if you can wait another hour you could always stop and grab a bite at the infamous Dinosaur BBQ(voted best BBQ joint in the US on Good Morning America) in Syracuse, also just off I81.

Who is in this now famous band anyways? My friend Tom may well visit over the weekend. He will love to play guitar for anyone who will listen

I bet he is practicing right now!

He is also an Elvis impersonator late at night. Did you know Elvis owned a tear? (ok not likely)...

We're at the Adirodack Mountain Club near Lake Placid this week volunteering as campground hosts.

Our version of the weather last Sunday evening was hail, sleet, and snow. The ADK campground is @ about 2100 feet elevation and near the high peaks compared to FCP's maybe 1600 feet. Though, some campers here last night had been at Rollins Sunday and also had snow. The good news is the bugs hide when it snows or drops below about 40 degrees F.

Might want to pack an extra jacket - just in case!

Will be moving over to FCP Sunday.

Al, were you there last week too? We were in Lake Placid till Friday. Seems we near cross paths in Lake Placid a lot lol.

We're headed the opposite way. Headed west to London Ontario tomorrow for a few days then back home on Sunday. If the weather is 'favorable' we will try to come down a day early on Tuesday and bring you some extra warm blankets.

Keep warm!

We got "12 bar blues" chords, old folk songs and a lot of other entertainment.

I guess the "Band" is a finalized as it's going to get.

Blues changes
The twelve bar blues and its many variants use an elongated, three-line form of the I - IV - V progression that has also generated countless hit records, including the most significant output of rock and rollers such as Chuck Berry and Little Richard. In its most elementary form the blues progresses as follows:

I - I - I - I
IV - IV - I - I
V - IV - I - I
Again, the blues progressions have formed the entire harmonic basis of many recorded songs but may also be confined to a single section of a more elaborate form, as frequently with The Beatles in such songs as You Can't Do That, I Feel Fine and She's A Woman. They have also been subjected to densely chromatic elaboration, as in the work of Charlie Parker.

Steedman (1984) has proposed a set of recursive "rewrite rules" which generate all well-formed transformations of jazz; both basic twelve bar blues chord sequences, and, slightly modified, non-blues I-IV-V sequences (such as the "rhythm changes"). Important transformations include:

replacement or substitution of a chord by its dominant or subdominant.
use of chromatic passing chords.
chord alterations such as minor chords, diminished sevenths, etc.

A,D,E7
G,C,D7
C,F,G7

I'm ready
