I do like the idea of a flag, especially since we did t-shirts last year, and most of us were there last year and received a t-shirt.

I am looking into options and wondering what size/shapes you'd all be interested in.

12x18" ?
11x14" ?
10x15" ?

rectangular?
triangular?

I'll get prices shortly.

By the way we stopped in at Fish Creek today.. it was a great day to hike around the park! ice still on the ponds, as you can see. Ice on the ponds with Whiteface Mountain in the background...

Also took a photo of Steve's site since he was the only one I didn't have a photo for. So looks like Steve's will be the only site with snow on it :o

Hi Dave,

How about a 12"X18" vertical hung ,so that a user could use a flag holder like{scroll} near the bottom .
http://flagsforsail.com/flagaccessories.htm Lots of people in our area use these for name & camp site flags. Just my 2 cents.

 Am I called on..............
OK here goes,
I'm with Bill..........12"x18" vertical hung. Hopefully, the more events that happen with other groups, maybe I can talk them into getting flags also? Better than Tee shirts. Think I'll bring it up with the Tear Jerkers. Oh no.......I'm babbling.........bye

I'm just pleased to see that John Brickley reserved #170 - that spot was open for the longest time and I was afraid Al & Lesley (#168) and Kate & I (#169) would be separated from the rest of the group by some monster fifth-wheeler!

Sure! All ya gotta do to see who's coming is to check out Dave & Kate's page for "Teardrop Participants." I'll be bringing my ladyfriend, Kate Johnson. She's working on her latest book, The Watercolorist's Essential Nature Notebook, and what better way to gather material than to do a bit of teardropping in the Adirondacks?
Here's her page - http://cathyjohnson.info/

No worry about 5th wheels and monster buses Joseph... at that time of the year there aren't too many camping... especially in that part of Fish Creek due to the bugs

Just KIDDING!!!! Fish Creek will be PACKED but not until the kids get out of school. Actually Kate and I hope to get down there soon... before the black flies come out to play.. or just before the tear up... gettin the itch to get out camping!!! We'll be down that way at our place in Lake Placid though in a few weeks so might go biking there... oh and hide Steve's wood pile as requested :)

A few updates:

I'm looking into the flag biz, and since there is more interested in that.. and the fact most of us already got t-shirts last year, well skip t-shirts this year.

So everyone likes the idea of a camp sign contest?

Last year was great! The 'TearDough' contest brought fierce competition amongst the young and almost young... Diane's talents in particular where astonding with her 'Sheerins Campsire' rendition...

Video of the TearDough Entries...

http://campadk.com/pjsnoozer/springtearup/videos.html

So this year we'll be having a campsite sign competition. No particulars yet.. but maybe prizes for various categories... best, silliest, largest, brightest etc...

Besides.. I've been after Kate to make us a good one for 3 years! One way of getting it made huh?

. o O { I bet Diane has started hers already } :D

The pot luck was also just great! We'll be doing another one to be held on the Saturday (June 18th). We can discuss who is bringing what as we get closer to the TearUp dates.

PS. Long term weather forecast indicate we will have MUCHO SUN this year! :applause:

Dave-
I believe you have sparked Diane's creative mind yet again-I haven't seen her since she read your last post!! She will probably spend the next 3 months sequestered in her craft room trying to come up with the perfect camp sign(can you say obsessive compulsive?)  I will do my best to keep her pre-occupied with other things though  . Maybe I could get her to polish the Metzendorf or help me finish our tear(hybrid). This should be a challenge. I will predict that there will be some very cool signs this year that will take down the 2005 teardough champ.(Don't tell Diane I said that!!)

Ice update??

Postby Al-Les-Palace » Tue Apr 25, 2006 7:28 pm

Anyone got an update on the ice conditions on the ponds?
Should I be installing steel icebreaker plates on the kayaks?

Fewer than two months to go. We eagerly awaiting our annual return to the Adirondacks.

We just returned from our first trip of the year - to Cumberland Gap Natl Park in KY-VA-TN. Nice spring-summer weather all week.

We just reserved site 181 at Fish Creek Pond for Saturday, June 10 to Sunday, June 18. My bride Wendy and I will be there with our handcrafted 5x8 Cubby. We’re also bringing our 16-foot fiberglass canoe.

We can’t wait!

Sorry I didn't update earlier.. we just got back from Vermont, New Hampshire and of course... ADK land in NY!

Al and Les, I can verify that there is not a drop of snow left on Steve's site (or any other site for that matter), and the ponds and lakes are clear of ice.

Boats and canoes have already been appearing on the lakes for several weeks now in the Adirondacks!!

The only snow left around the area are on the 4,000 footers. I did manage one last day skiing at Whiteface however last Thurs (had to climb up though)

Fish Creek is already open, and has been since April 15th. No doubt there are some lucky early season campers enjoying the early spring!

Rick....

I think we should post some 'guidelines' for the camp sign contest to throw Diane off LOL. Actually Kate and I were just thinking of having several categories for prizes... I'll talk to her shortly and maybe post something about that.

Glad you and Wendy can make it Tom! You'll now be representing the whole state of MASS at the TearUp so good luck!

As per last year, we plan to have a communal pot luck on Saturday. We'll be posting more about that later so everyone can submit what they would like to bring. Only 61 days to go!
