Well I called the Ranger 4 times today and only got an answering machine. I'll try again on Tuesday. When I get some answers I'll post them.

Joe and I are planning on getting to the camp site early Thursday morning.

In all my years of camping ive only had two unwanted animals wonder into the camp site, skunk and mtn lion. Not gonna lie the mtn lion  made me just freeze in awe :frightened: . Thats one of the best parts of camping, is seeing wild life and hearing it smelling it unfortunately :? but hey im down for what ever. Would love to find a hot spring close by for a day trip or anything. Those who have a/c in your rig say "I"....... ill have a few good looks at your rig for those who do as im making a 12 volt ac for mine....... cant wait for this trip!!!

I agree with Slow, highly unlikely you will have snow. My folks were up that way just a couple weeks ago, a little further north, and it did rain quite a bit. Great fog photos.

While the area is experiencing a bit more moisture, we are in what I think Slow found out was the worst drought since they started recording it, or was it the worst heat? Either way, its pretty rough. About half the state was declared a natural disaster by our Governor.

For those worried about an emergency at home, the best thing to do is to find the numbers to the Sublette County Sheriff's Office and the Bridger/Teton forest service. I know how much one worries, one thing that I've always made sure of is my family and some friends know where I'm going to be so if there is an emergency, they know which resources they need to contact and where I should be camped.

Several years ago my grandmother was watching things at home while we went on vacation. We came home and found out the poor woman had issues with three different vehicles while running our mail route. She'd even wound up changing a tire on the 3/4 ton pickup by herself!

Mom and Dad found the money to by a cell phone so we could check in every few days with her.

That was the year she had no issues, but WE did! Tranny went out on the suburban at Meadowlark lake. Next morning we drove 40mph all the way home, left the trailer. Bro and I were then left at home while Mom and Dad drove back up there for the trailer with the same 3/4 ton pickup Grandma had tire issues with. They got home just as Leno came on TV. Next day Dad found out the bolts on the transfer case had shaken loose, a few were missing. REAL lucky!

Ladies, the best thing you can do if you're on your "bear bait" time of the month, stay clean, bring lots of moist wipes and if necessary throw the bag of trash in the vehicle for the time being! If you're bringing pets (including your husbands/boyfriends) throw their food and treats in the vehicle or the bear bin. I haven't seen any bears myself when camping, plenty of deer, moose, runaway llamas, etc. But it happens. Bout fifty years ago, great-aunt and uncle woke to bear prints in the frost on their camping trailer windows.

As for ideas concerning hygiene...no worries folks, Slow's gonna learn soon enough about the importance of keeping clean when camping with a woman! And ladies (and seasoned husbands), you all have my permission to enlighten him

Enjoy!

Angie we will do our best to pull Slow into the modern world. So far he seems to only poke his head up out of the cave he lives in to look around some. We may even see if we can get him to comb his hair. He tells us he sometimes skips the tooth brushing when out for a few days. We will work on that also. If you have any special wishes let us know. Good luck bringing him home to meet the parents. I know how stressful that can be. My (Soon to become FIL) scared the crap out of me. He turned out to be a big teddy bear, but it took several years to figure that out. Sorry you can't make the gathering. We would all love to meet the girl that is willing to "Tame Slow".

I suspect there is a phone number for the local sheriff or ranger that could be called; and, if it was an emergency, they would probably drive up to the campground and let you know, wouldn't they?

We have a Wilson Sleek cell phone booster. Our phone will go from no bars to full bars when we use it. I bet we get cell phone coverage using it.

Well after 3 more calls today I finally reached the Pinedale Ranger District office.

BEST NEWS!!! As is stands right now we are able to have a camp fire and we can use charcoal in the approved BBQ grills they have. So we are able to Dutch Oven cook and grill. Lets eat!!!

The camp host is 2 miles away at the Narrows. Sounds like he does double duty between the Narrows and the group site.

The water is also located at the Trail head by the Narrows.

Cell service does work at the CG. But it is spotty based on the weather and other conditions. If you move down to the paved road a couple miles away the service is more reliable.

The phone number to the Ranger District in case of emergency is 1-307-367-4326.

She also told me all food and toiletries that have any smell need to be stored inside the trailer or Tow vehicle.

Check in time was 2PM. But I asked if we can get in earlier since we had people coming from all over. As long as no one reserves the site for Wednesday we can get in early on Thursday. The weekend before we are there is rented so the chances for a mid week reservation are slim.

I will start a separate thread for meal sign up. Please check it out!

Sorry, didn't mean to offend with the request for an emergency number. I enjoy being out of cell phone range but I am travelling without my husband & if he were to get really sick I would hate to be out of reach for 3 days. Much nicer to have an emergency number for him to use than to feel like I need to make a daily trek to a pay phone just to try to check in. So thanks very much for the emergency number!

Maybe a good time to ask this.
What can I expect going to a gathering like this. I saw on the IRG pics a buffet and wondered ok do i need to plan something in my dinner to share with others. will it be go do your own thing till dinner time. really new at this.

Forrest:

Typically at a gathering, there is one shared "Pot Luck" dinner, where everyone brings a dish to share with everyone else. All other meals on on your own. This varies from gathering to gathering, I've been at some that were very small, and we got together for more than one meal.

I've gone from simple fruit plates, to more complex dishes, depending on circumstances, and what was needed. When I was in Indiana, I did a three bean salad, because I was able to make it before I left home, and it simplified things for me. There is no need to be extravagant, unless you choose to.
