I get calls from scammers at work. We deal in classic cars, and these guys call and want to "trade" an ultra collectible car for 1/4 it's value for some old junker we have plus some cash. Our standard answer is; "Will you take a 3rd party check?" At that point they usually hang up.

P.S. That Kodak Casting Agency thread here looks kinda fishy to me. They don't have a website, or a yellow pages ad, and they use a gmail address.
Maybe I'm just paranoid

Don't we have a professional photogapher on the forum?? I would think he could provide them with the pictures they need at a fair market value.. Jim G :(

Based on this cats syntax and knowledge of the English language...I'm betting he also has some Nigerian Oil stocks also....I'd ask for 50$USD in cash for the answers he seeks...

There are some buyers out there who are for real.

I've sold 3 trailers overseas who's emails have started out similarly.

REGARDLESS of what they asked for I demanded a wire transfer of all funds to my Bank...not to my Personal bank account , BUT TO MY BANK.

This weeds out the riff raff.

If the deal proceeded.....

Once my bank notified me that they had received the money, it was deposited in my account by my Bank. NOT by the buyer. The buyer NEVER knows my bank account number.

This must all be prearranged with a bank officer before, a very easy process.

Then I shifted it around to at least 2 more of my accounts (that I keep very low balances in) then took it out as Cash and sat on it.

Just to make me feel safe.

There are international buyers out there that are legitimate.

Unfortunately Scammers like these make us all wary.

Call there bluff, If there honest they'll respond. If not you let them know your on to them. Don't give any information but the name of your bank and a contact person there.

Your Bank is your advocate.

Happy Trails

Once I played dumb agreed to getting their check for over the amount. Just to see how far it woud go. Then was instructed to cash the check, bring the additional monies to the carrier truck to pick up the items bought. I received an actual paper check, did research on the bank, which had a phoney website, called the BBB, to check out the bank. Lots of complaints on the phoney bank website!

The next step, I agreed to a set pick up time and location. Of course I gave a different name, and location address for the pick up. I was going to have the police there ready to make an arrest for fraud, but these guys are smarter. The carrier could be a legitimage business, and the instructions given by the person actually committing the fraud. So that leaves the carrier transport out of the loop when it comes to prosecution.

I scrubbed the idea of having the police involved, and forgot I made a meeting time. Well then they continued to email me with threats of keeping their money. I just laughed, and didn't return their contacts. I use a different email account when posting on public websites offering anything for sale.

Good for you Cliff.

Doing nothing feeds these leaches.

I really think that if I had somebody tell me to give back the overpayment I'd tell them to work on there Math Skills.

Why would I get an overpayment for the Shipper??

Sounds like a letter I got while trying to sell our pop-up. They even sent me a check after I din't reply to their email. Check was for listed price, no contact information, nothing just a check in the mail. Of course I didn't cash it, still have it just for laffs. Posted another ad a couple of weeks later and same email comes from same guy. Had to laugh that they would be so dumb. But then again if your scamming I guess ya play the odds, sooner or later some one will bite and take your bait.
