Is it a stolen Little Guy trailer?

There's an ad in the Portland Oregon craigslist for a 2008 Little Guy 6-wide toy hauler. $3995 (2008 tear drop toy hauler). I'm suspicious as the price is low, there is no phone number, only an email address, and it is stored in a storage locker near the airport. Also, the photo he used in the ad is one from the Little Guy website. He says it has no license/registration because it doesn't need one. What do you think? If I agree to meet him at the storage facility, will I be hit over the head with a wrench? Will I give him cash and find out later it was stolen?

I have learned to trust my instincts on these type things. If it feels fishy, don't go! God gave you that little voice in the back of your head screaming "don't do it!" for a reason.

I would never meet anyone selling anything at a secluded place by myself.

Do you need license and registration in your state? He might just be down in his luck and need the money. I would make sure that he has a title or some proof or ownership. If you do meet him make sure to take along a couple of your buddies for back up. Try and have him meet you some place with the trailer, like a McDonalds or Walmart. Make sure that his proof of ownership matches the VIN number on the trailer. Whatever you do don't give him any money until the everthing checks out and the trailer and paper work are in your pocession.

Just use your head... take a buddy or two with you, and if you reach a deal, have him meet you at a bank with the title, and you will have a certified check from that bank to pay him.

Between seeing the TD, and meeting at the bank, run a check on the VIN.

It is probably a legitimate deal. But be careful.

The ad sounds legit to me. $4k quick cash means a lot to someone no longer getting a paycheck. They started making the '08s in September 07 and there's going to be significant depreciation after two succeeding model years.

As has been suggested, take some buddies. Don't take cash. Take a camera. Get the VIN and do the transaction at a bank.

Does Oregon law require that it be licensed/registered? If not then that's not a red flag.

And I keep my teardrop in a storage facility. That would be a good thing in a rainy environment. If it's near PDX that may make perfect sense if they do most of their camping in the mountains and depending on where they live or work.

You're all right. We decided not to go look at it, anyway, because the galley wouldn't meet our needs. We're sticking with the cargo trailer conversion. Thanks for the advice. Hey, if anyone out there is looking for a Little Guy, point 'em to the ad!

Little Guy trailers have been selling for less than 4000 on EBay.
Most are 3200-3500, or haven't sold at all if the price was higher. Just search "completed listings" on eBay.
I put my tear on eBay and got dozens of messages telling me it was too much money, because "Little Guys are so much cheaper...". Even a couple of Wazats went for 3700 or so.
In the last 30 completed auctions only two trailers sold for more than 4000.
Many dealers are dumping their trailers to get rid of them, driving down the price.

That is really not that bad of a depreciation for a recreational vehicle. You should see what happened to the value of my Bayliner when I floated away from the dealership.

Little Guy is selling direct for MSRP. Prices are lower through their dealer network. Standard operating procedure for selling in a channel.

I would think if its a legitimate deal, you could ask the seller for the VIN and then ask LittleGuy if that VIN was reported stolen.

That's because the listing was just updated with new pictures. I looked at it earlier and it did have the manufacturers photo on it.

Good looking TD, but I am not wild about the "toy platform". I can see why some might like it, but it just does not have the same look with it. Imagine what the tongue weight is on that thing with a four wheeler on it...
