
Maybe use some spacers so the lid would pivot like normal. Maybe put them on opposite sides so the lids would open outward to become small shelves. Anybody already think of this?

I believe those are even made for left and right sides of truck beds. I like the ones with the shallow box on top and pull out draws facing backwards. Google images WHEEL WELL TOOLBOX
