Gearing up for long build weekend

Postby ssutton » Tue Jun 30, 2015 6:25 pm

Taking off Friday and Monday really hoping to have a lot of the chassis done by Monday night. I started plasma cutting out the main frame brackets this afternoon.

Headed to Horrible Freight tomorrow after work to pick up a new horizontal band saw blade for all the 2X3 inch steel tubing.

Finished up the plasma cutting last nite. Converted the CNC machine back to router mode preparing to cut wood flooring and aluminum.

Spend today building the welding jacks. I decided to elevate the frame 36 inches so that I could weld all the way around without having to flip it over. I also installed the new horizontal band saw blade and dialed it in for square cuts. Tomorrow I will mount up the frame steel on the jacks, level and square everything and start the welding process.

My son and I spent the day yesterday cutting up all the steel tubing. The HF band saw is SUPER SLOW cutting this heavy of material.

Today started all the welding. I am NOT a great welder. Fortunately my brother in-law is a professional welder and he is a great teacher. Tacked everything in place and then ran out of gas. This week I will restock needed supplies and hopefully take off Friday for another long weekend of camper building. The welding stands that I made worked perfect. I was able to level and square the frame material in just a few minutes and lock everything into place.
