RV van conversion

Postby Gator417 » Tue Apr 12, 2022 8:29 am

A couple years ago I purchased an Aerostar (E4WD) for a camper project. PO insulated it, installed some solar panels and an inverter and used it for camping until he blew a head gasket.
My plan was to fix it, tweak it a bit and do the same until it got smashed by a tree. From the doors forward is still fine but the cargo area got hit pretty bad.
I think maybe I can cut the rear out and convert it to a mini-RV. Has anybody here done this? I'm not even sure which area to look fo info about it.
Thank you,
Gator

Posting a picture of what you have to start with will help with answers. Right now no one has suggestions without a picture.

Where would one find this "expedition portal"? Asking for a friend.

I think he means the opposite. That is the portion that got crushed. I guess I'm picturing starting with a "pickup truck" without a bed

I just looked up an aerostar van. That is a unibody vehicle. If you remove the crushed cargo section, you will need to make a structure strong enough to replace the loss of the original structure to keep it road worthy. The lower unibody will bend if no upper support structure is made.

You might be better off to find a box truck style chassis to start with. It doesn't need a massive structure to build off of. It has a frame to build off of.
