where should I look for this gasket?

Postby TheresaD » Sat Jun 25, 2011 3:42 pm

I need to replace the rubber gasket around the skylite in my ttt. It's a 14 x 10 skylite. I checked vintage trailer supply but I think because my trailer is european the size may not be a common one around here.Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can look here in the U.S. for this? I'm hoping I can get one here. If not I'll have to see if I can get one from the U.K. Here's what it looks like.

Theresa, you may be able to make a gasket. You'll have to determine what the cross section looks like. You can then buy 5' or so, cut to size and glue it in. Bonding gaskets is pretty easy.

Try googling rubber weatherstrip for ideas of what is available.

Howdy,

For rubber seals of all types and weatherstripping, go to The Minor Rubber Co. Carrolton, TX or www.minorrubber.com to puruse their catalog of diffenent types and cross sections.

To stop insidious leaking and freezing of door seals, I selected their refrigerator door seal with a compressive section and a labyrinth face. Believe me, no more problems with enclosure doors for Diesel and gas turbine gen sets from locations in the Arctic to those of Saudi Arabia.

Incidentally, the proper noun of Diesel should always be capitalized because it is the surname of R. Diesel, the German inventor of the Diesel engine.

Take care,

Ok.. so pardon my ignorance on this but... don't I have to find the exact same kind of gasket or can different types be used to achieve the same goal? Do they seal the same way? I thought I was going to have to find a rubber gasket, the same as what was originally on my trailer, that was pre-formed into the rectangular shape to fit around the skylight opening. Maybe not so much? Thanks for all the tips. I'll check out all the links.
