We ate the traditional turkey/elk/potatoes/stuffing/green beans/dump cake yesterday. The local Boy Scout troop cook a Thanksgiving meal every year (they camp out Friday and Saturday nights to tend the fires for long, slow cooking) and invite Webelos to camp with them Saturday and eat with them Sunday as a recruiting event. We didn't camp, although we ate hotdogs roasted over the fire on Saturday night before I took dear son and his cold home to sleep in a warm bed. We were back for the lunch, though, and came away with a left-over half turkey, so I'll be making turkey pot pie, turkey posole, and turkey enchaladas over the next couple of days. Then we ran off some of those calories in a 5K event known locally as the "Turkey Trot" and won a 20 lb frozen bird.
I'm not even cooking for Thanksgiving! My cousin is having us over for a gluten-free meal (she doesn't trust anyone else to cook gluten-free for her dear daughter). I put the 20lb turkey in my step-dad's freezer, figuring we're more likely to eat it with him than alone (dear SD, twins, me, 20lb turkey--we need to invite a bunch of friends over, that's for sure).
