What's For Thanksgiving Dinner?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby gregp136 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 9:25 am

We are doing the taditional food...turkey, stuffing mashed potatoes, Sweet potatoes... But this year, since the teardrop is done and I have a little extra time, I decided to make my own Dinnerware. Got some stoneware clay and have been working on it off and on for the last 6 months. Decided it would just be serving bowls, dinner plates and dessert plates. I will work on cups for next Thanksgiving.

Sounds like it will be spiral cut ham, and what goes better with ham than magic beans, sweet potatoes and a couple pies, chocolate and store bought pumpkin.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

 We are going to Lawrence KS to be with my family so I am doing a side and desert. Not sure what to make that will be safe to travel 3 hours... Might do quick and easy at the church. Oh and my siblings are all great cooks as are their spouses.

I got a little anxious watching football and made a pie. Edges are not my specialty, but I do better on the Turkey Day pie.

That pie looks yummy to me Greg. Bring it on over, I'll furnish the ice cream!!

Our kids and grandkids live in other states so it will just be Lance and I. I don't do the big turkey thing anymore unless the kids are here. For us it will be pork tenderloin with orange-cranberry sauce, roasted root vegatables, sweet corn pudding, steamed broccoli, fresh baked bread and maybe, just maybe a nice bottle of wine. Dessert will be blueberry pie with ice cream.

Nothing Wrong with sushi or taco bell. I have spent many Thanksgiving with simple foods. Good luck all.

I guess me and Dog will do eggs an’ jalapenos with cheddar…maybe open a can of chili with beans to go with the tortillias.

Of course Dog will have to sleep outside for a couple of days…that chili swells him up sumthin’ terrible.

We ate the traditional turkey/elk/potatoes/stuffing/green beans/dump cake yesterday. The local Boy Scout troop cook a Thanksgiving meal every year (they camp out Friday and Saturday nights to tend the fires for long, slow cooking) and invite Webelos to camp with them Saturday and eat with them Sunday as a recruiting event. We didn't camp, although we ate hotdogs roasted over the fire on Saturday night before I took dear son and his cold home to sleep in a warm bed. We were back for the lunch, though, and came away with a left-over half turkey, so I'll be making turkey pot pie, turkey posole, and turkey enchaladas over the next couple of days. Then we ran off some of those calories in a 5K event known locally as the "Turkey Trot" and won a 20 lb frozen bird.

I'm not even cooking for Thanksgiving! My cousin is having us over for a gluten-free meal (she doesn't trust anyone else to cook gluten-free for her dear daughter). I put the 20lb turkey in my step-dad's freezer, figuring we're more likely to eat it with him than alone (dear SD, twins, me, 20lb turkey--we need to invite a bunch of friends over, that's for sure).

Doing the traditional, all made from scratch plus a fried turkey. Decided to do a camp trip Friday - Sunday. Going to make some pot pie bowls to heat in the coleman stove top oven. :)

Since the kids were quite young I have made a stew in a pumpkin. Since their dad and I are divoreced and their spouses come from divorced parents we now do that around Halloween as our Halloween/Thanksgivng tradition usually between the two holidays. I usually work on Thanksgiving and the husband stays home and watches football.
