TTT Toy Hauler - Has Anybody Built one?

Postby gibby » Tue May 08, 2012 8:31 pm

Good Evening Everyone:

I was wondering if anyone has built a TTT that could carry an ATV inside? Like most here, I have lurked about and have gleaned many fine ideas and have several of my own. My thought is to build a TTT that can accommodate an ATV.

I did conduct a search using "ATV" and came up with several CT conversions, however no homemade projects.

So a nudge in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gibby,

For the life of me, I cannot recall the builder or name, but one fellow built a really neat toy hauler. Real, out of the box thinking,...literally. Instead of tucking an ATV inside, he made a platform deck between the sleeper and the tongue. Then, when he got to his destination, he unloads the ATV. That void on the deck now leaves room for a front slide out that pops out of the sleeper. Awesome and spacious for a TTT, but probably a bit front heavy. Front deck would hold an ATV or a couple of dirt bikes.

Wish I could recall the build. Maybe someone else here can chime in with the link.

I plan to use a longer trailer and build the cabin up front and load the toys in the back. Put a rear door on it and the back deck becomes a patio after unloaded.

Thanks for the input and link, guys. I have a couple of thoughts on it and a couple of options to build on.

Over the winter I salvaged a 25 ft travel trailer chassis. I cut it down to 14 ft, with the thought to build a toy hauler teardrop similar to the Littleguy Toy Hauler. The sleeper on the back with the atv located at the front. I have since used it for collecting firewood and it"s awesome for that. Overall, I think it is too heavy to use for the toy hauler project. It weighs 1000 lbs, with just decking on it. Add 700 lb ATV and another 1000 or so for the TD and then contents, gerrycans, generator, etc. So it's not long before your over 3000 lbs. My TV can tow that, but I think fuel costs would cut into my Kool-Aid budget. :D

As well I salvaged a nice big tent trailer chassis 10 ft long by 6.5 Ft wide. I have it stripped to the chassis ready to be reinforced. With this chassis I was considering a project that would amount to a CT conversion. This I think I could build with a finished weight 1000 lbs lighter including the ATV.

Any thoughts or input?

Thanks again,

I've got a 6.5x12 that I'm going to be building a toy hauler out of. It was an old Colman popup. So far I've only gotten the sides off it though so I don't really have much to share just yet. I'd love to see what you do and borrow ideas.
