As to the origional post, another forum had a discussion of trailers to haul camping equipment with smaller cars. One of the posters mentioned being surprised by the number of people hauling thier gear in U-haul trailers. More than likely, the campground in question has very limited parking area for the tenters and does not have room for all of them to pull everything they own into the campground to unload then take up extra space with an empty trailer. A converted cargo trailer probably would not be a problem as it would be used as the sleeping area and parked in an area designed for such a trailer rather than taking up car parking space. With windows and proper equipment it is just an RV anyway. I suppose that a cranky operater could split hairs with you, but most won't. Just my thoughts on the matter.

That odd, when I registered my li'l weekender style camper the State sent me an RV plate. Same State, different BMV employee's I guess. (probably was afraid I be swappin' the plate around with my other utility trailers) :D

Yup, same state, different BMV location and employee--mine's registered as an RV, but I chose a vanity plate......94882

dang Bill I never thought about campers pulling utility trailers I just jumped thinking cargo trailer conversions.
thanks it makes a lot of sense to me now, In a resort in Clearwater Florida there was a big motorhome that had
a cargo trailer all gussied up the lady used it to display her paintings she was selling as well as a studio.

If I had to guess about the "no tear-drop" policy of Hermit Island it's probably just a way of avoiding conflict.

Reading through the description, it sounds like a place that caters mostly to tent campers. The sites are probably not very big.

While that's not really an issue with a TD, if they instituted a "no RV policy" and somebody saw a TD there, guaranteed SOMEBODY would complain, even if there is no comparison between the TD and the 30 foot fifth wheel they're hauling around.

Better to just enforce it with everybody.

That said, the Compact and Squidget owners are good to go, lol.

I've camped at Hermitt Island, one of the nicest areas we've ever camped in. The problem is in the enforcement ( I asked). They don't want to get into arguements about what constitutes a "teardrop" and what the cutoff would be where your trailer is considered " full sized". The campground is accessed by a sandbarr and large trailers could get stuck in the sand. As a side note the final day we camped there we couldn't access the beach because Kevin Costner, Robin Wright Penn and Paul Newman were filming " Message in a Bottle" on the far beach. BTW, they didn't allow their trailers into the campground either.
