My memory foam is sitting in the CT with snow falling on it and the temps at 29 F. I will go out later and check it out.

Last new year I went on a trip where the temps got down to 17F. I have 6 inches of MF. They do firm up alot, but body heat creates a nice spot, and I slept a lot better than the guys in the tents did. The 2nd night and made it a point to pre-warm the interior with a small propane heater I had. This made a big difference, the cushion was as soft as usual, and while it did firm up overnight it wasn't an issue in the area immediately around me. I was by myself, and on other trips I've found that with two people inside the interior temp stays quite a bit warmer.

Hi, Bob! Thank for the help, let me know what you find out, please.

And Tom, thank you too for your input! I'm pretty sure that some type of regular memory foam mattress will do just fine for us. I don't really expect the wife to come with me on any trips that are much below freezing at night. And for me, if I got winter camping it will likely be a backpacking trip anyway. My only real question now is should I do a sit down table area inside the camper, or just go without. Thanks again for your help!

I went to the trailer tonight and it was still snowing (going to wake up to a lot of snow to snowblow tommorrow. There was no heat in the trailer and the temp was about 29F. My 6in MF was quite firm as in freezing up a little. I laid on it and it was firm.
My only concern is whether moisture will result when it thaws, so I will keep an eye on that.

But in my real world of camping, I will not have an unheated cabin, and I believe that the mattress will soften up as I lay on it and even if I had no heat, it would remain soft because of my body heat. The only issue is that this is my belief and I am not about to test it without heat.

Hi, Bob! Thanks a lot for checking into that for me! I think from the sounds of things that a regular memory foam mattress will be just fine for us at least to get started with. If we find we have to upgrade it later we can do that. Thanks again for the help!
