Sounds like a scam to me...

Postby Pottercounty » Fri Mar 11, 2011 2:47 pm

I was doing a search for a good friend on Craigslist for a 20-30 ft travel trailer and came up with this. I emailed and this is the reply I received back from the seller. This really sounds fishy to me....

Re: 06 Camper Trailer For Sale - $3200
I am glad to know you're interested on my 2006 Fleetwood 3102 BDS, I wanna get rid of this camper as fast as possible. I inherited the RV from my husband who died in Afghanistan last year. He was a soldier in the army corps peacekeeping detached.
The camper has been sitting ever since, collecting dust, didn't move it an inch.My asking price is $3200 but if you`re really interested I can make you an offer for $2850 if you will buy it today or tomorrow. The RV is in perfect condition , with no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever, never been involved in any accidents. The interior looks great (NO SMOKING). I have a clear and clean title for it , no liens or loans ready to be signed and notarized on your name.Although is great each time I see it, it kills me and makes me cry.. knowing how much he loved it and how much he babied it all the time makes me want to sell it even more. You may think I'm a terrible person but right now I'm pregnant in 6 months and I've been forced to relocate... moved back to Dell City, TX.
It sucks big time, but I'm hoping for the better.. that's that, I'm not going to take more of your precious time with my rant.. we'd better discuss the subject at hand.
I'm in no condition to travel, every time she moves my belly hurts and now my back is hurting.. I can barely walk.. I was told this was coming and just before leaving Denver,CO I left the camper with the shipping company (DAS) to be stored in their warehouse, sealed, ready to be delivered with all documents.
I've arranged so that shipping is free on your side, it's paid with a voucher issued by my insurance company to help me move but didn't use it because i didn't really have much to carry..Get back to me if you are interested in purchasing and we can have a smooth deal.
Bellow you can find the options and features of the RV together with more pictures:

Sounds too good to be true for sure. BUT, if it's legit, it's the deal of the decade!!

She is not talking on the phone??? Give her a call and fuel up the truck! Just don't exchange $$ till the title is signed over and it's sitting behind the truck.

Seeing as how those pictures appear to be of a brand new trailer sitting on a dealers lot and not one in storage ready to go. I would have to agree with you.

I found that same trailer for sale at RV World. Compare the photo with the one on the site given in the email. Check out the trailer to the right of the Pioneer in both photos. SAME EXACT TRAILERS.

It's likely a scam-

http://www.dasautoshippers.com/i-found-this-great-used-car-online.html

Rule number 1 of buying something like this over the internet: NEVER EVER EVER wire transfer money. Once money is wired, its GONE.

If your still interested in this "deal", I'd ask the seller for a DAS Package number because you've got a friend in Denver who can pick it up for you. Contact DAS using a phone number you find from google (not from a link emailed to you) and verify they actually have the trailer.

Let me see you are getting a trailer worth maybe $10,000 - $15,000 for $3200..... From somebody you don't know... And wants money ahead of transfer of title and before you can "see" item (wire)...

I'm pretty sure it is a scam....

The ad reads like it was written by someone who's first language was not English.

Sad, but you see these scams all the time. I have been watching one on a 1999 Scamp that has been posted in too many cities on Craigslist to list. This one is a soldier getting ready to deploy.

These all boil down to... too good to be true and involve a third party holding the camper AND your money.

Hope no one falls for them.

How can it make her cry every time she sees it if its sealed up in a wharehouse? Why be so eager to get rid of it so quick if its just sitting there out of her way???

A buddy found a nice looking truck at a good deal recently on CL.

He emailed the seller and wanted to see the truck.

The seller had some BS reply similar to above, and to top it off had a pretty rock solid story about why she was selling the truck so cheap...

To paraphrase in "guy looking for a jacked-up 4X4 for cheap" terminology she was a hot chick who got mixed up the wrong guy and kicked him to the curb.

Now she needed money because she was about to have a baby and was getting her life sorted out, and she'd "help out" some "knight in shining armor" by selling him her P/U for a good price.

When I convinced my buddy I thought it was a scam he told "her" so.

"She" then replied "NO SCAM MY MOTHER DIE I LIE YOU".

Poor thing also seemed to have lost the ability to make a coherent sentence in English.
We figured "she" was from Nigeria and my buddy continued his search for the perfect "compensation vehicle", a little sad but a little wiser...

Please send me a PM after you pick it up.... I have some ocean front property in Arizona you can park it on and watch the waves splash on the beach.... 8)

I had a friend call me not long ago with a similar version about a Scamp ... he said if he bought it, the seller (who being deployed) could have the government fly it to whoever bought it.... yeah, right....

Scam-a-lamma-jamma

Postby Engineer Guy » Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:51 pm

I shopped CL extensively before buying a lil TT recently from a local Car Lot.

One fellow detailed losing several grand $$ on a similar CL scam. At least he was kind enough to get the word out to others.

There is no 'maybe' here. As mentioned above, it IS a scam.
