Looking for an alternative...

Postby Pottercounty » Sun Mar 20, 2011 9:09 am

Looking for a alternative to our 10 x 10 pop up canopy. I've seen some that look like a nylon material that conform to the shape of a teardrop however, I don't know if these are commercially made or custom made.
Seeking information or resources for finding something simple. The 10 x 10 canopies are nice but very heavy and time consuming. I appreciate any help...
best, Tim

Tim:

You'll find both custom made (usually expen$ive) and some that have made their own. I have a 10x10 popup, and also have issues with the weight and setup. I camp alone, and while they can be done, it is a pain, and it takes up quite a bit of room inside while traveling.

I have designed a simple 11x11 canopy which I am about to start work on. I was actually hoping to get it sewed up this weekend but have been fighting a nasty stomach virus.

Page 12 of my build thread shows what I am doing. Simple concept, one corner will attach to the trailer so I am hoping the opposite corner will be easy to put up, and then the two other corners. Very lightweight. I purchased the waterproof nylon on ebay, and had some old poles in my shed, so the total cost was about 35.00 bucks.

PahaQua has some teardrop specific designes including tarps that are attached to Keder/awning rails that can be used to the rear or side.
I gaotta ad mit I was the one that came up with the idea for the one in the rear http://www.pahaque.com
they can also come up with what ever you can dream up and quality is tops.
