Re-purpose of 15 gallon sprayer as a water storage tank

Postby Jerry Bleeg » Sun Apr 17, 2011 12:09 pm

I saw this 15 gal. sprayer in my HF add[/img]http://manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/9000-9999/9583.pdf and was wondering if anyone has ideas about using it for water storage for a camping trailer. With a coupon, it is going for 89.99. It comes with a pump, sprayer, and is made of polyethylene. Would this be suitable for water storage(human consumption) given that it has never been used for chemicals. I'd like opinions on mounting it under my tear (not sure of dimensions). Another option would be to carry it in my truck bed and place it on my trailer tongue while camping with a hose going back to a sink. Thoughts and comments are welcome.

:o If it doesn't say food grade it isn't. That doesn't mean you can't use it but....

I bet you can find a tank and pump on eBay for less.

Next thing you'll be suggesting that, after the weedkiller solution has been drained out, it should be rinsed before it is used for storing potable water. Fussy, fussy, fussy....

At least no weeds are gonna grow on ya'
We've used one for a quickie shower set up once - it was only a two gallon model that we would fill with warm water

My first thought was you could use it for a shower. It would work great for that. Paint it black leave it in your truck bed and let the sun heat it up!

I agree with Miriam, it's not food grade. I have to deal with this kind of stuff all the time at festivals (I'm an inspecter for the health dept)
Starleen, no weeds nuthin', it will cause your hair to fall out :o

Does sound good for the shower though.

These are the tank, and pump that I went with.
I added some hoses and fittings from a Big Box, along with something like this to fill.
Now this will likely find a home in my truck, and be used for more than just camping, but they could be adapted to the trailer easily.

Thanks to all for the replies. And thanks for the links. I did not know you could pick up a tank so cheaply on ebay. The square shape of the ebay tanks would be much easier to mount under the floor of my tear. Food for thought. I did note something about the ebay tanks being approved for human consumption. So that's the info I needed. Great idea of painting it black and using it for a shower right out of the back of my pickup. Ultimately, I think I will be going the traditional route.

The part that bothered me also was the need to run antifreeze through it to inhibit rust... :? I am not into a rusty pump.
