Side room/tent?

Postby MNBullyBoy » Sun May 22, 2011 10:22 pm

I have a teardrop based on a 47 KIT. I am looking for a side room/tent to give us a bit more room, a place to change clothes and possibly get out of the rain and/or bugs.

I have seen the one offered by Camp Inn (http://tinycamper.com/tent.htm) $297 - nice but a bit small . . . and pricey.

. . . and the one by Little Guy (http://www.golittleguy.com/teardrops/tr ... ptions.php) $595 - really like this one, but the price is outrageous!

. . . but was looking for other, lost costly options. Any ideas?

Pics of our teardrop for good measure . . .

If there is a thread already going on this topic, please feel free to point me in the right direction. I've searched but haven't found anything.

I saw lots of great home-made side tents at the Dam Gathering. I met a lady named ?Marylyn? who makes some nice, easy to set up side tents that I liked. I didn't get her business card, unfortunately.

I too am interested in an easy, inexpensive, solution to the "changing room" problem :D

I have the Camp Inn side tent, which I don't care for and can probably be convinced to sell.

Came with the used Camp Inn.

PM me if your interested.

Hello,

I have a taller teardrop style trailer and mine has an awning. I purchased a good quality white tarp and a door kit and fashioned a vestibule for my trailer. The whole cost was under $75.00 and accomplishes the job very well.

Hello Slow,

The frame is the awning support legs and top and then I also use these to attach to the sides of the trailer,

They allow the tarp to snap into the Snap clamp using 1/2 pvc pipe and then I am working on securing the snaps to the trailer using snap buttons. I will take a better picture once is completed. This setup gives me a 6 x6x 7 feet vestibule that is rain resistant and I can also add windows if I want.

Cheers,

If you can sew you could make your own side tent, or have somebody else make you one. our tent uses a awning rail and a few snaps along with a couple poles and ropes, all folds up to a small neat package. design your own thats what teardroping is all about

We bought a $50 Coleman beach shelter from Amazon. It kind of fits to the side of the tear, and can be staked down or weighted with sand, but we ended up not using it after the first season. It's okay if the weather is dry but if it rains it tends to fill up with water. Plus you can't really stand up in it or store anything in it. And there is a gap between the shelter and the door, so you tend to get wet when you get out anyway if it's raining. We mainly wanted it b/c if you open the door, there you are! A bit of privacy when you open the door.

Tried to find a picture but it looks like they've updated their design--couldn't find one like ours.

We have decided that, when possible, it's just as easy to roll the teardrop back under the 10 by 10 shelter. There's enough room on either side to get out, it's private, and you can change clothes standing up. Probably looks wierd to passersby that our tear kind of disappears during the night, though! 8)

I was at Wally World today and they had their version of the 10' x 10' ezup weather walls for $39 bucks. They were not on the same aisle the canopies so I don't know how much the ezup type canopies are.

Here's a few pics of the side room for my sister's '46 KIT. It was made by Marti of Marti's Awnings of California. She is also a member here. Her web site is at http://www.trailerawning.blogspot.com/
