...junk catcher...usually leveling block, mats, extension cords and other stuff, often dirty, which folks don't want inside the tear...the space used for that box is normally wasted, as it is outside the optimum placement spot for the body............

Lets see if I can remember what's in the chuckwagon
tongue box.

an 8" spare ~ 2 scissor jacks ~ one 4 way lug wrench
~ 4 stabilizer jacks ~ 2 wheel chocks ~ pie irons~
camp crane frame and swinging grate ~ all of the
utensils and side basket for the dutch oven table ~
log tongs ~ a fire place shovel for the d.o. coals ~
a couple extension cords ~ and it also houses the
7# LP tank!

The camp chef D.O. table was in there but I found
it a better home so I wouldn't have to dig to the
bottom to get it out.

So basically if its heavy , greasy, or dirty it becomes
a great place to keep it so everything else won't become
dirty , greasy , snagged or broken

As memory serves....
collapsable water jug, 3 extension cords, 20+ bunji cords, bottle of propane, can of butane, 3 screw in ground stakes, small rechargeable vacuum, water shoes, hatchet, rope lighting, lighter fluid, small hose, .......

Am I missing anything?

Some of us use it for interior storage. Here's a shot of the slider doors that allow access to the tongue box storage space: http://www.oregontrailer.net/Oregon_Trailer/Streeter_Build.html#118 :)

Under bed access can be a P.I.T.A. if she is nappin' and you are a needin'

you might concider outside accessable storage drawers like Erv's pictured here.

Interior access on the top half, exterior access on the bottom half. Gives an extra 4 cu. ft of storage inside & 4 cu. ft outside.

There are two sets of double doors inside...the pic shows one side.

Our first tear did not have a box and I had serious tongue box envy. Compass Rose was made with a platform to hold the largest box Delta makes for Tractor Supply. In that box is the the battery, and it will hold the air compressor for the air shocks, controller for the solar and depending on season the AC unit or diesel heater as well as the tarps etc. It is also large enough to hold our 2300W Kipor generator.
