I hang out on IRV2 and the number of quality issues are truly amazing. The other truly amazing thing is the inability to fix anything. I can't even begin to remember the number of times I have said when some one has an electrical problem "A VOM is your friend, you start with where you do have power and follow it till you don't and your problem is some place in between".

SC , amazing the Large amount of problems they have :o .... even More amazing is the Vast amount of money they spend to fix problems caused by the manufacturers using the cheapest products and worst materials , hastily (sloppy ) built on an assembly line that is going as Fast as humans can be driven . (much Unlike the philosophy here) ... They are obviously Not Happy ... but they remain loyal to their RVs... :? The impression I get is these people have waaaay too much disposable income , or are just DUMB !!!

( RV Logic) Good example is all the problems they have with those pesky Norcold reefers... supplied by the manufacturer , they break quickly , so what do they do ... they spend another thousand dollars for a new cooling unit install... then spend another thousand on fans and built in fire extinguishers so the RV doesn’t burn up in a reefer fire ... just to keep their Ice cream at just the right temperature .. :o For that kind of money they could have bought a great cooler and an iceberg the size of the Titanic, and had no problems ... They just don’t make sense to me ...

Here we all ascribe to Mikes' practice of ... "The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials” ... Sound , Logical reasoning , unlike anything RV ...
Just trying to steer them to a better alternative to the RV liabilities they have now ... $>

Maybe I shouldn’t care , but I too was severely “Burned” in an RV purchase... and just don’t want people to make my mistake

Except, I'm trying to upsize. I have my eyes set on a 13 foot Scamp or Casita. Or, maybe a T@B. My friends don't understand why I don't just buy the biggest trailer my pickup can tow. One finally said about the Scamp, "That's so light you won't know it is behind."
I said,"Exactly!"

My neighbor has a 13' Scamp and loves it. If I had the room I'd have something that size, but more like Gage's Field and Stream, or a Lil Loafer. And my Grasshopper.

Darren has towed my Grasshopper and of course his own Scamp..he thought the Scamp towed nicely until he had the Grasshopper following him..kept forgetting it was there!!

I'm headed to the RV show in town next weekend. I'm always amazed at the cheezy quality of the construction. Stuff is really flimsy. My Aristocrat was a bomb shelter..that thing really was built like a house. Well insulated, too. It's like anything now..stuff isn't built like it used to be.

Unless you build it yourself!!

Or cheat like I did and buy vintage! :D

GPW last trailer I owned it had a water leak where the front met the side panels hard to see and didn't look bad
until I was going down the road and the side panel was billowing out from the trailer.
using some duct tape I made it back to ohio from florida and did a repair in the spring
it looked to me like the panels were cut to short.

I delivered new trailers for a transport company and have seen everything from siding come loose to brakes malfunctioning.
Far worse were the FEMA trailers, they were the cheapest made trailers that I have ever seen period.

I have a 2010 30' Class C that I am pretty happy with. I use it for my 3 - 4 week vacations that involve at least four of my six children. Using a TD or my current CT would, of course, never be an option for those trips. I bought it slightly used at over $40K less than sticker.

Was the construction done to the highest standards?
No, when i look deep enough I see a few (less than 3) things that don't make me thrilled. I correct them if possible and within my talents/budget. I learned many years ago that doing repairs/maintenance/upgrades myself was both cheaper and gave me more peace of mind that it was done right.

It is my second motorhome and my third RV overall. I do think the quality improved since my first one.

I think the compromise that I have settled for is tolerable because I also know that the cost for one would skyrocket if better materials and craftsmanship were used.

My CT serves a different purpose than my RV. I am fortunate to have both.

I just went to the RV show in Baltimore the other weekend. I thought the TT's were getting nicer looking, more expensive, and built cheaper. I sold my 25 ft TT and got my teardrop a couple of years ago. Little Guy's quality is WAY better than the 25ft. TT I used to have. They also had a new T@B at the RV show. You could see the quality was higher in the T@B vs the travel trailers (IMO).
