Looking for Cabin Pad / Mattress

Postby Livewire » Sun Mar 11, 2012 7:11 pm

Hello All,
I am in the beginning stages of my first Teardrop build, I am wondering what everyone is using for the cabin area padding / mattress...
have you bought something to fit or is it custom made ????

I had the local foam shop custom cut my 5" thick foam mattress to size. It wasn't cheap, but was a better solution for my odd-sized cabin than trying to make an off-the-shelf mattress work or using an air bed that often went flat :(

I also get my foam custom cut locally. I will have it cut in 2 - 3 pieces so I can stack them and clear room on the floor for bags and gear, and also to make for easy removal through the door so I can store them inside in the winter.

I'm using a 5'' foam topper from JCPenney. It is a truly firm foam and can be very hard when cold.

I also got a memory foam topped latex mattress at walmart.com. Decent price and very comfortable. I think min is either 5 or 6 inches. I think 6. You may want to do on search on this topic, as it has come up many times before and had some good ideas in those threads.

A 12 volt mattress pad heater turned on 30 minutes before retiring takes care of the hardness.

Yeah... I've had a 120V mattress pad heater in there for 3 years, but that is no help when I camp without hookups, which is quite often

ditto on the spa mattresses at Walmart. Ours is 8", 3" of memory foam and the rest hard foam. It's great. Actually going to get one for the house when our current mattress dies.

Only by online special order for store delivery btw.
Conform and be dull.

What density of foam did you get and how do you like it?
