Starting my TTT build this week!

Postby eddie6775 » Thu Apr 05, 2012 6:57 pm

Hello every one, It's been about two years in the planning wanting dreaming stages of my trailer build, and I'm finally ready. I was going to wait until I had an open bay in my garage, but that's just not gonna happen rite now. I'm building this trailer primarily for a place to stay for work. I currently keep room-mates that are chosen for me by someone else and stay in dive hotels. Well, no more. I decided that all I need is a place to shower, sleep and eat. simple rite? :D

SO... I have and old pop-up frame in the back yard in good condition that's big enough for a 120"x75" floor and thats what I designed around. I already have some drawings up on the board but went with something different. My idea is just a 32" square shower (Home Depot) with a potty storage door in one side (curb side rear), Twin size mattress on a frame next to the shower, (the potty stores underneath the bed and a sink built over the remaining exposed wheel well....I'll post pics later on this evening if anyone is interested. Any way, this lay out gives me sufficient room to move around in the middle of the camper and leaves a 48"x75" area up front. I figure I'll leave it open and use folding furniture to suit whatever need I have at the time.

I can't wait! My wife is even enthusiastic for me....usually when I come in from the garage she asks me what I've destroyed or exploded but with this project she's throwing ideas my way and actually helping. Wish me luck!

I'll definatly be posting build pictures! Of course I'm probably going to put them in the build thread area. So. any way, I started last night. I spent some time wire wheeling, went good. a bit of welding, no problem. I put some rust converter on the frame and while it was drying I decided to cut the ply wood for the floor so I could paint that and give it time to dry and alas.... I killed the 3rd circular saw in a matter of 2 years! I was so :x ...Out of all the tools I own, the only one I don't seem to have luck with is a saw......any way, I started wondering what in the world I'm doing wrong to these saws that kills them so quick. I even gave it time to cool down in case it was that thermal over load protection and it just didn't come back on. Oh well I guess it's time to spend more than $20 on a circular saw. over all though I'm pretty pleased with last nights progress.

Any advise on the saw thing anyone?

Makita....Expensive but the most controlable saw out there. Very planted feel if you know what I mean
Hitachi or Dewalt or pretty good to

Are you using long cheapo extension cords?
That will kill a saw in no time
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

I think your rite about the power cord Martiangod, I was asking around at the hardware store and it seems if the cord is too light,it doesn't supply enough amperage to the motor which slows it down under load and ends up overheating it. I was also using the wrong type of blade. Every time I've killed a saw it's usually cutting plywood. I had a blade that I thought would less of a mess on the edge but it turns out it was made for real thin stuff like luan and stuff like that. I invested in a nice carbide tipped blade made for ply, and the saw came with a blade made for framing. I believe it's called a Diablo.

Today was an educational day! That sucker cut rite through!

By the way..I did end up buying a some what cheap saw because I just couldn't afford top shelf but I know now something about not abusing it. This one's pretty cool. Even has a laser for a guide and a much heavier construction that the last couple...and has a 3 year warranty on it :worship:

Now...out to the garage I go! :applause:
