Mini Boom Box with a Mighty Sound

Postby Todah Tear » Mon Jul 09, 2012 12:14 pm

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to have music while camping, check out this mini boom box. It is approx 3" x 2" x 2", but it puts out a lot of sound. I have used mine all over the house. The other day, I had mine playing while I did yard work, and it puts out the sound. I just loaded some MP3s to a thumb drive. The boom box had a port in the back for a thumb drive and other forms of memory storage. If you don't want to use a thumb drive or memory card, an added feature is that you can just hook it up to your cellphone or MP3 player and just use the powerful speakers. I was really impressed by how much sound it puts out, especially since it is so small! It even has a FM radio on board. This thing is so small, that it could be concealed in the galley. You could leave the hatch up without worrying that someone would steal it. I know it sounds like I am gushing or giving a sales pitch... but don't you love it when you buy something and it turns out to be even better than you anticipated!

...and here is the description of the box:

This little unit packs a powerful sound. Like the boomboxes of the 80s and 90s, the Mini Boom box can take a variety of input sources for music and play them back through its powerful built in speakers. The Mini Boom box plays back MP3 and WMA files from SD Cards, MicroSD Cards, or USB Flash Drives. Or you can use it as a portable speaker and hook it up to the headphone port of your phone, MP3 player or laptop. It also has a built-in FM Radio and Voice Recorder, making this a versatile device. It's durable aluminum housing and highly portable, lightweight and pocket able size make it perfect for taking it wherever you go.

Todah:

That looks interesting, but I have a couple questions that you may be able to answer.

1. Is the battery exclusive, or does it use a universal like AA?
2. How long does the battery last?
3. How long does it take to charge the battery?

Thanks!!!

The only thing I use any more is a set of PC speakers connected to an mp3 player. You can usually pick them up for nothing to whatever you want to spend, mount them anywhere and power draw is very low.
The more stuff I take along, the more time I spend taking care of my stuff!

(It has an internal battery that can be charged by your computer via a USB port...OR I used the wall plug-in cable that came with a MP3 player that I had. The charging socket on the back of the mini-box is of standard form.)

2. How long does the battery last?
(Saturday afternoon, I was working outside for about 3 or 4 hours, so i know that it will last at least 4 hours. It was still going as powerful as when I first turned it on. In fact, I turned it down because I didn't want to disturb my neighbors. )

3. How long does it take to charge the battery?
I don't know how many minutes that it is "supposed" to need to charge, but I had it plugged into my computer Friday night for about an hour before I unplugged it. It was plugged in an hour because I got busy doing something. Friday night, when I was packing a bag for the beach for Saturday morning, I disconnected it so that I could pack it in my bag for the beach. I didn't want to forget it. I ended up not playing it at the beach though.

Thanks!!!

* JStrubberg,
That's what so nice about this little box ( a little bigger than a can of Vienna sausage), the fact that everything you need to play and amplify sound is in that box. Just take the box with you. You can cup one hand around it.

**Starleen, thanks for the uploading the manual!

The Amazon webpage says "average battery life" is 12 hours.

Question .. there is a microphone hole in the front .. Why?

That is cool! We do enjoy music while we camp as most of our locations are in State Parks, no bugging out for us. We have a Bose system but this is so much smaller. We are never the loud party campers so I doubt anyone would be disturbed by our good old rock and roll or a little Conway Twitty. Truly a good find Todah.

I find it interesting that two different USB connections are required, one to transfer data and one to charge the battery. They provide a "2-headed" cable but it seems like poor design.

*...so Slowcowboy,
The mystery has been solved. It has been "your" alarm that has been waking everyone up in the morning. BTW, I am very conscientious about disturbing my neighbors. We all have good speaking relationships (ones that go beyond just a perfunctory wave) with each other. From time to time, someone different is working in their garage with the music playing, so we are very tolerant. With few exceptions, no one ever blasts his/her music.

** Richard A., this mini-boom box had me at, "Hello". Now, the 12-hour battery life has me cativated! :D

There is a microphone hole because you can use this box to record...anything, a bird chirping, you singing Conway Twitty's greatest hits [honeask ], etc. 8)

** GuitarPhotog, I have only had my mini boom-box for 1 month. Only time will tell, however, I haven't had a problem with mine yet.
