Dogs where you let them Ride

Postby droid_ca » Wed Jul 18, 2012 10:02 am

So I was wondering where you keep your dogs in the back of the truck or the cab? While traveling.

My 90lb Lab/Mix has the whole backseat of the truck to herself. She's sensitive to heat and benefits from the a/c.

The pooch goes in a wire framed rip-stop nylon kennel that is seat-belt strapped into the back seat, right behind the driver seat.

This guy--

rides behind the seat where he can stretch out. If he's wet, he rides in the back of the pickup when we're around home.

Sadie rides the center arm console between the seats ( refered to as "Her seat" )

except when the driverside window is down.......

Then she is on my left thigh with front paws on the window sill and her chin on the side mirror helping me drive. She has learned to work the wipers and the turn signal (left turn only) and can on occasion honk the horn.

Hobo usually rides between the front seats but sometimes need some lap time. We can drive from Virginia to Florida and she won't move more than 2 feet.

Ride? We let them drive, but only on back road.

Usually just tie his leash to the rear bumper, Griswold style.

Miss. Daisy shares the back seat with Tyler. She definetly has a little road trip in her blood.

For those of you traveling through California:

A couple years ago, California passed a law that dogs cannot be loose in the driver cabin portion of the vehicle.
Also, a number of years ago, they passed a law that dogs must be tethered or kenneled when in an open truck bed.

The truck bed one is enforced. I haven't heard if the cabin portion one is being enforced or not.

Also, there are laws against driving while using a hand-held cell phone or texting while driving. Hands-free types are okay.

...A word to the wise is sufficient.

Back Seat but they do try for the drivers seat now and again.
