Mad bomber

Kat wanted to take the tear out for her birthday last weekend.

We went to our favorite creek in the mountains. Backed the tear down a steep hill onto a bench just above the creek.
Was in the shade of a huge pine. Probably 5' to 6' across. thought it would be nice to have the shade with the temps in the mid 80's up there.

Set up the galley, and Kat started fixing breakfast.

Heard a LOUD thud behind us???? Looked and didn't see anything out of place.

A few minutes later, another thud, accompanied with pieces of a broken branch raining down.

Got out the binoculars and spotted a tree squirrel near the top of the tree. He was gnawing the pine cones off the branches. These are not small cones. Probably 12" to 14" long, and 2 pounds.

We ended up putting the shade cover up, not for the shade, but as a bomb shelter.

Cones bounced off the shade several times over the weekend.

I did get a picture of the culprit.

It was a nice weekend.

Beautiful place to camp...love seeing pics of folks' getaways.

I'd kill for some pinecones like that...lucky!

That's kewl and funny.

That's one of the nice things about camping, getting to join our little friends outdoors. :running man:

Last campout we did, we were sitting round the ole campfire with the grandkids, Cocoa was sitting on my lap and all at once her nose goes in the air and she starts making a noise and I then see something walking thru out camp and I think skunk, :worship:

grab my little tactical flashlight out of my pocket and see a raccoon walk right on by and into the woods. Pretty kewl, the kids got a big kick out of it. :o

Cheers

It's nice of the critters to share their neighborhood with you. It looks like a pretty spot. Glad you had fun and could share a cute story. Thanks! :applause:

Northern Nevada, about 60 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe.

(See, Nevada isn't ALL desert... Mostly though....)

Great story Sam and I hear you on putting up some cover. We've had similar experiences with those big pine cones falling in camp. My pickup carries a dent in the roof from one of those big cones falling from who knows how far up. Wouldn't be surprised if a squirrel was to blame!
