Trimming ends of hurricane hinge (?)

Postby les45 » Thu Jul 26, 2012 7:07 am

Anyone have a detail on how they trimmed out the end of their hurricane hinge? I installed mine with about 3/8" overhang on each side (that's just the way it came; no cutting) and left both pieces of the hinge at the same length. I see where some folks cut off the rear piece flush with the body. My thoughts are to leave both pieces long and simply round off all the sharp edges. I will be installing the L-shaped edge trim with vinyl insert on both sides of the hinge. (PS - that gap under the hatch gets a D-shaped rubber seal after painting.)

If it were mine I would trim the hatch piece flush but not trim the none moving top piece. I'd likely add the slightest of a grove 1/32 inch to the underside to break the surface tension of the water rolling down the groove so it will drip off rather than roll down the trailer side.
