My Brothers Birthday

Postby pete42 » Fri Jan 11, 2013 11:30 am

Today is my brother's birthday he turned 73 two years older than me, I'm 70 now 71 in March.
I called to wished him a happy birthday.

I said "remember when we were young and we looked forward to being 16 so we could drive leagally
and how mom would always have cake and ice cream on our birthdays"?

I then ask "just what are your plans for today, lunch out, dinner something else?"

his reply "I'm doing what I do best today; I have a 2:30 doctors appointment".

so there you have it young people eat ice cream old people go to the doctor on their birthdays.

what do you do special on your birthday?

Pete -

I too have had my fill of doctor's appointments and procedures the past two years - I'm a youngster at 68.

I lost my brother in November, he was ten years younger and avoided doctors, so maybe there's a lesson there.

I bought myself a new Jeep Liberty w/ factory towing package for my birthday; passed on the ice cream and cake, but did sip a little wine.

I usually take myself to Walt Disney World for my birthday. This year I was camping with Gertrude at Fort Wilderness on "the day." I had taken myself to Camping World the day before and gotten my LIttle Red Campfire. I then discovered that I needed an adapter to use the propane cannister, so returned on my birthday to get one. Instead I got my wonderful fiberglass propane tank at a GREAT price, as a birthday present from CW, because I'd forgotten to take off my WDW "It's My Birthday" button! :applause: Wonderful birthday!! :wine: :wine:

I really need to re-retire one of these days.

I wake up and celebrate living another day. Then, I settle down to open a few presents; read emails & cards, and take phone calls from friends and family, wishing me happy b'day. :)

On my birthday I get up and watch "my" parade, the Rose Parade. I remember watching the Rose Parade in B&W when I was very small, in color and in California the year we went to my grandparents' house for Christmas and New Years, also in color at my other grandparents' house in Denver at New Years, and finally in color the year my mother (yes, Mom) bought a Heath Kit color TV and put it together. (My dad was a teacher and Mom only worked during Tax Season, so money was always tight.) Did you know the Rose Parade is delayed until Jan 2 when Jan 1 falls on a Sunday? It's very distressing! I need my parade!!!
I think in 52 years I have maybe missed 5 RPs. My kids think it's corny, they just don't understand the RP was my mom's first gift of the day to me on my birthday for years and years. I miss my mom, but I still have birthday parades.

My B-Day is in August and for the last few years my wife and I have planned our annual vacation around that week. So for my B-Day I enjoy taking it easy on vacation. Usually there is a fine dining experience in there, and later when we get home my Mom will usually cook me the meal and dessert of my choosing.

When TPCE is complete, my B-Day will be spent at Poet Creek doing more of the same, vacation, fine dining (camping style) and adult beverages.

wow you ask a question and the answers are great some around past memories and some newly formed but all enjoyed.

I had company over the weekend, this has nothing to do with birthdays, my GF brought her doggy "Addy"
99776 we gave her a bath GF brought a big plastic tub which we sat on my shower stool in front of the toilet
while I sat on the john the doggy just sat there in the tub very quite while we lathered her up and rinsed her off.
it took 3 old towels to get her dry, she was rewarded with a snack.
I do have to say she is a bed hog for such a small dog.

For my birthday, I try to give myself my favorite birthday present. I take the day off from work. As a kid growing up, birthdays were rarely more than a cake and a present from mom and dad. Our family rarely made a big deal of birthdays. I still prefer it that way. As a dad, it's a bit different, I try to make the day special for the kids even if they're all adults now... As a husband, my wife and I have birthdays within 2 days of each other and we agreed long ago that a quiet dinner together was all that we wanted from each other.
