Plastic welding

Postby jandmz » Tue Oct 15, 2013 10:41 am

Does anybody here have any experience with the plastic welder that sells for about $50 at HF?
A fellow camper has a blue tank for waste water that is leaking at one of the seams. It is HDPE. It is not a tank that is pressurized.
Is it something that an amateur can do reliably?

hdpe welding just requires patience. I've repaired a couple of rotomolded kayaks using this method and they still float!
while this link targets the repair of a kayak the principles are the same. 'course, I was keeping water out while you'de be keeping water in... additionally, you can do the repairs without the special tool(s); check out the link.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. I think that is exactly what we needed to know. Hopefully we won't melt the tank. I'll let you know how it goes.

It leaks now. It can't get worse, right?
