Colours for painting the inside of TD

Postby Kody » Thu Nov 21, 2013 7:10 am

We are thinking that we might paint the inside of the TD with a high quality paint like marine grade paint. I could use a good interior house paint but that's not the problem. Does anyone have any photos of the interior of their TD that was painted with a colour? I would like to paint the interior with a clear polyurathane but by the time I sand the ply to a smooth surface, the top veneer will be extremely thin or non existant. The surface of the ply has "roughed up" somewhat because of the extreme change in the humidity. Are there any photos available to have a bo-peep at to see how your pride and joy has turned out.

Carpet on the ceiling, oil based enamel on the walls.

I just primed with Bullseye primer/sealer and painted with interior paint. 112388 It's still in work though.

I primed the inside with Kilz Premium, and then used a "kitchen & bath" paint from Lowes. I think "barefoot beach" was the color.

Primed the inside of our trailer with Glidden Gripper, then mixed up all our left over paint to make a nice greenish gray ... Thrifty !!! :D

I painted mine a homemade brew that turned out to be a sea-foam green, a light, light blue ceiling and bright yellow trim and accents.

It does not matter what you paint it with.....just keep it light.

In defense of my small and (mostly dark) interior (same as exterior) paint choices: after dark, with the main LED lighting on (110vac IKEA strip lights) 107294 or the overhead 12vdc globe lights on (4 in a row)106342 the trailer is too bright. The silver-painted (reflective) ceiling is just for that light amplification effect. I use a group of 4 RGB-LED puck lights (also 110vac from IKEA) mounted forward on (vertical surfaces) for less light,104352102807 or even dialed to different mood lighting hues for drowsing. 104353 At daybreak, the curtains (black lined, but not opaque) 108391 allow enough lighting in from the two windows. Or draw the curtains back. After all, I built this trailer (ostensibly) as an "expedition base" for my wife's hobby (but in actuality, as my "man-cave" on wheels). Either purpose dictates the choice of a darker set of colors. It's also a bunker! 109058114373 I must be a morlock at heart.

+1 on what vedette said: keep it light and it will feel a lot roomier. Mine is light green walls with white ceiling, all with Zinsser primer and acrylic latex house paint with no moisture problems.

another +2 for keeping it light. Mine is painted Dark green. It looks nice in contrast to the stained pine cabinets but is too dark. Once a mosquito gets in there and goes anywhere near the walls, it disappears and you can’t swat it. It will be re painted a light green or pale blue next year.

PS dont try to sand the ply smooth use a filler if you are going to paint plywood. Even super thick primer and sanded down untill you just start to see the wood. Then apply more printer as a filler and last paint. easier to do in the TD is not assembled.

I tried to make my interior look like I was in a fenced garden. The lower walls are wood tone and the floor is tan with scattered replica brown leaves. Above the wood tone "fence", I used a sky blue paint. I picked up a paint sampler sheet and then watched the sky for a shade of blue that I liked a lot and then matched the paint samples to that. It worked out okay. I was going to paint clouds in the "sky" but, in the end, thought it might be too much. I still might add the clouds someday, though....

I usually paint it white so I have more light with only 2 windows in the Boxkite. disadvantage I pull with a car and tie thing in side the cabin and after a rough ride there are scratches all over the walls.

one way to make is seam bigger inside is to make one wall darker then the rest it makes it feel larger.

You can also glue on fancy decorative sheets.
here are some examples

and there are many many other designs.
