Fishing pole storage / short bed truck

What are you guys doing for fishing pole storage in a short bed truck w/ shell ?
My new Lews rod is longer and it has to go diagonal across the bed.

Two-piece rods, hang them out a window, strap them to the roof, zip-tie to a frame rail, or just leave them at home.
What I do on any given trip depends on what conditions I will be encountering, and how much I need a particular rod.

Not a fisherman, so this may not be applicable, but back around 1947 one of the first fellows to build a teardrop had a cap on a piece of the metal tubing that ran the length of the trailer, and stored his poles in that.

Even some of my 2 pc rods don't fit!! I've slowly replaced my favorite longer types / styles with 3 & 4 piece rods. Thankfully 2 of my favorite fly rods fit (barely) in there case across the back of the truck!

So, I have:
2 Flyrods in their case (4 & 6 weight) two piece
1 3pc 9 weight in it's case
1 4 piece surf caster in it's case
1 spin caster 1 pc (shorty)

All fit across the cab just under the window. Bigger issue is how much space my associated gear takes up!

I don't have any idea about dealing with a one-piece rod other than a rooftop rod holder. But they aren't cheap.

We carry our two-piece 9-footers broke in half in rod cases crosswise under our Tacoma's bed cap. The side window opens up and they're easy to grab.

* My short 4x8 trailer is comparable to a short bed camper shell in length; a storage tube (usually used by plumbers & electricians to store pipes or conduit) atop your shell would work. I bought a 10' long 6" diameter pvc pipe at Lowes, cut it down to 8' (all I needed) and installed a
Buyers Products CC600 PVC Conduit Carrier Kit, 6 Inch Diameter kit from Amazon. The kit consists of tube ends (one is lockable) and the clamping brackets (big U-bolts) needed to mount them on the vehicle. I could've gotten a 4" diameter or 8" diameter kit, but the 6" x 10' pvc was best for my purposes.
