Weatherstrip question

Postby planovet » Wed Dec 17, 2008 4:19 pm

I'm using an EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) seal for my weather striping around my doors. It did not come with an adhesive backing. What should I used to attach it to my door frame? Would a double sided tape work or will I have to use an adhesive (glue, epoxy, etc.) to keep it in place. I don't know what is best for sticking an EPDM material to a urethaned wood surface.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I got mine from Grant and it had double sided tape on it. You will want to get a better tape so it stays. I guess you could glue it but that is so much a bother. 8)

Are you sure there isn't a plastic tape over the adhesive? If not--3M automotive weatherstrip adhesive sold in any auto parts store should do the trick.

Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Mark,

I'm thinking double sided tape. But no matter what you use, you may want to consider that you may want or have to remove it someday.

I've never seen that stuff without the double sticky tape installed on it already.

You can get it in different sizes at the box stores with the stick already on.

I got it at McMaster and it came with a plain back. That was the only way I found for the size I wanted (3/8"x3/8"). There were other sizes that had the adhesive back but not in that size. I thought about using Grant's but it was 1/2" wide and I was looking for a tad smaller.

I'm thinking a double sided tape would be best. If I glued it down it would be a bitch to remove if I ever had to. I guess I need to fine a good quality tape to use. I'm sure I'm going to have to trim it down to get 3/8".
