Door Frame Question

I am going to frame my doors with 3/4 in spruce the same thickness as ther walls.. The walls are 1/2 ACX with 1 inch x 1 inch studs with a 1/8 birch inside skin. The jamb and hinge area of the door will be backed with 1" thick x 1 in wide studs. See pic.

Any suggestions such as wood type or if my design seems OK?

If you haven't already, you should consider what type of door hardware - hinges, latches, door stops, windows, etc. - to make sure you have framing in the right places for these.

That's how I did mine. One trick is to brace your door to fit the frame until you skin it. I've done 4 doors on 2 builds and the door and opening never came out quite square. The brace made sure the frame had the same crookedness as the opening.

Thanks for the info and advice.

Do you all think Spruce would be a good choice for the door frame? Any better wood choices for this application.

Does anyone use a standard door knob?

I think it depends on where you live on what kind of wood to use. Spruce isn't readily available in Colorado so I used poplar. Its cheap here and it holds a screw well. I've never used spruce but I know other list members have to good results.
