Those are nice, some years back, my dad used to make some similar to that out of 3/8 in plywood, Basically one 4x8 sheet, made one chair, with some leftover scraps that he used for other projects. Legs, back and upright part of arm rests - his armrests had a hole on the left side for cup holder (if I recall the arm rests attached through the back with a toggle bolt after slipping over and turning 90 degrees over the upright, the toggle bolt was only fasteners used of the project, the rest was just bent and snapped into place)

My sister had the last couple he made, but they disappeared in a move a couple years before he died, We were planning on getting him to make some more, but health issues got in the way, and we never got around to it. (sucks being a procrastinator..... I wish they would find a gene therapy to cure it... so many things lost, so little time.... eh, we'll deal with that problem later....)

Without water proofing, they only lasted a couple seasons before they started looking pretty scary :thumbs down: so if anyone make one, polyurethane the crap out of it....

And contrary to popular belief, you can take it with you, or at least thats the illusion.... didn't find any of his wood cutting patterns when we cleaned out the garage, so either he took them with him or someone found them first.....

so do post some plans (unless you plan on taking them with you :drofl: :drofl:

Update on status of chairs?

Postby resqman » Sat Dec 11, 2010 4:32 pm

Did you every get everything worked out? Plans would still be cool to have even if you are not going to make them. Interested.

Very cool! I like the pack-flat idea. I'm looking for comfy chair to add to the great escape. Sinking feet are primary concern - am not worlds smallest man.

This is just fascinating design concept. Will be good to see new evolutions!

Definitely a neat design! I was doing some searching for similar chairs, and this one is pretty sweet too!

I might draw it up in AutoCAD and see if I can duplicate it. Both the ottoman and chair are made from a single 5' x 5' sheet of plywood. Stores flat @ 60"x30"x1-3/4"

Does not fold, but I made this chair from 1/2" Baltic Birch a few years ago.
