Mike...

Elaborate on "black goo"....I have used the spray can car underbody stuff on cars and that stuff sucks...it stays wet/tacky to the touch for weeks, even months after being sprayed on...and doesnt' seem to stick very well.

What is the stuff (name brand/cost?) of the stuff people are buying in cans and brushing on? I have access to Lowes and Home Depot.

Thanks!

It's all the same -- black goo! Like you said, the spray-on underbody stuff is CRAP! Basically, what you want is a complicated version of roof tar... aka asphalt emulsion coating...

Well you buy cheap stuff and you end up with cheap results. It's funny how the stuff I pictured dries in minutes and can be painted within an hour or so. It even shines up nicely with good quality tire dressing. Adding beauty to the underside of a show truck.

P.S. You get it at a paint store. Not at a so called Auto Parts store.

Actually, I bought Luan from both Lowes and Home Depot to line the ceiling of my trailer. The Luan from Lowes was quite a bit less expensive, but when I took it home and compared to the Home Depot Luan, I found out Lowes was thinner, lighter, and had more surface blems. I took it back for a refund, since it didn't match up to the panelling I bought from Home Depot. I ran into a similar situation with piano hinges.

As a result, I've been sure to get all of one part from one or the other. No more mix and match, and I check HD first before going to Lowes. I know there are places with much better lumber than HD, but I just wanted to point out there are places with worse, also.

Gage --

Inexpensive and cheap aren't synonymous. Lost of people have had excellent results with the emulsion paint. It is essentially the same thing as your rubber undercoating, only instead of rubber it uses asphalt and is therefore quite a bit heavier.

To each his own! :)
