...I have seen the 263 on the website but not in the stores, so ya goes with what ya can gets...I reckon
As far as the "oil canning" that Dean was talking about, I've heard about it but have seen no one post about an actual experience...if anyone has had an experience with oil canning it would be informative to hear about the actual experience

...went back to the website and checked...the 663 is a water based rubber resin and the 263 is a solvent based rubber resin...the 663 has a working time of 70min Vs. 30min for the 263. This tells me that the 263 probably has a better water resistance and may be a little bit stickier...it is also probably harder to clean up. For anyone who is interested here is the site for W.W.Henry Adhesives

The Robert's brand outdoor adhesive that Doug mentioned can be purchased at HD.

I used it...so far so good ! I visited my grandson at Camp Lejeune this summer...about 1600 miles round trip .
As you can see by my gallery, I have a front window and a top vent .
I took the liberty to cut the aluminum skin in such a way that the top and bottom sills of the front window are covered with the skin to the width of the spars it is fitted between...same is true of the top vent.
The aluminum is folded into the opening and glued/ nailed there...

Henry's 663 users

Postby rooster » Thu Aug 25, 2005 6:23 pm

I hope to be skinning my tear this weekend and my HD did not carry 663.
They carry Robert's 6700 Indoor/Outdoor instead. In instruction states that there should not be any paint or petrolium base products on the wood sides. My question, what about the Varathane I put on, will it give problems?

Jim, :?

This is a very old thread and I was wondering how well the henry 663 is holding up after all these years. I might use the stuff myself. Also, will it stick to cpes or regular epoxy or paint?

Have no idea about it sticking (or not) to paint or epoxy, but mine that is between my aluminum and plywood is just fine and has never once 'oil canned' on my tear since it was completed in mid 2005!

I used hardboard under my aluminum but I painted it prior to adhering the aluminum with 663. Paint seems to be OK.

The 663 has worked well on one side. The other side did not work so well and the aluminum has come loose from the trailer on a single run of aluminum. The reason for this was detailed in an earlier post on this thread.

The failure was the result of the aluminum having to be pulled off (before the glue dried) after having been applied to remove some debris that got between the aluminum and the trailer.

If you go this direction don't pull the aluminum off after it has been applied.

The only other area that has been a problem has been under the hatch hinge along the wall. From the hinge down on both sides it appears that some water has entered and caused the aluminum to delaminate.

So,
-- paint seems to be fine
-- apply the aluminum once
-- don't let water get between the aluminum and the camper

The people who float their aluminum skin, I wonder if it (oil-cans).

I had similar results. Completed my first teardrop in 2005. The Henry's was still holding great when I sold the teardrop about a year ago.
