Dear Ira,

When I suggested 77 you thought it was a bad idea, Now it is a good idea. Just goes to show how much we all appreciate Steve Frederick's advice. Thank you Steve.

Come on you guys, this is the best lead in you ever had to hijack a thread!!!!

You said that in my other thread involving wallpaper, not fabric.

Do you see the difference?

Varnish or polycrylic over wall paper isn't going to soak through like it will through fabric to really help adhere it to the wood. So I wouldn't trust the spray stuff to hold the paper on by itself in my high heat/high humidity climate. In this instance, with fabric, the 77 is there to just position it right before using the other stuff.

I just edited this because the tone of your post really pissed me off, but I took a breath and replaced what I originally posted with this sentence instead.

Dear Ira,

I did not mean any tone at all, just a joking post. Glad you took a breath.

Ira--

Can you use push pins to test the fit before glueing?

This is a fabric, laid up with epoxy. I'm sure that your idea will work just as well, even a bit nicer, in varnish,Image

Now WHY exactly did the Old Timers use a canvas covering ??? The plywood wasn't as good as today ??? UV protection ...a unifying surface skin??? And what's with the felt under it ??? So many modern choices ??? Aluminum starts to make more sense....

Tonight/tomorrow I shop for fabric.

Friday I take off work so I have a 5-day weekend.

Friday I START work on the galley by ripping those sticks out, smoothing the surfaces the best possible, and laying fabric.

You guys familiar with the Cubby galley or just looking at my photo:

Fabric normally comes (I think) 45" wide. That means off the bolt, it should cover the full height of the side wall, right? So all I would need is 3 yards, correct?

Or should I buy 10 to account for screw-ups?

Ira, as Guy once told me, "it's just New York humor."

I used to work in dramatic theater set constructon. The painter wanted EVERY vertical surface that he had to paint covered in fabric. What we did was dilute 50/50 elmers white glue and water. This was rollered onto the surface. The fabric was layed out on this and than the fabric was rollered with the same mix. If done right the bond is rather strong and the surface is sealed and MOSTLY water proof. We never had need to make it water proof so i don't know if this will be suitable for the gally of your TD, but it's a thought.

Welcome, Antilies!

And thanks for making your first post here about my galley fabric!

I hope you stick around, build a TD, and drive yourself to the poor house like the rest of us!

To be honest i've been lurking for the last month or so. I've wanted a TD for a while now, but was having a lot of troubel finding information on building one. I've got a LOT of ideas, but no $$$$$. But I'm confident that I'll own one soon enough.

BtW I hope that you have an oppertunity to try my glue thing above. It might not be waht you need in THIS particular situation, but it has been very usefull to me.
